Find a used set for sale (lots of them pop up in the classified section) and try it out on those. Then if something happens you're not left without headlights. Take your time.

Many say they can't justify paying so much for retrofits, but after you get them done you'll be saying otherwise... It's amazing how much light a retrofit puts out. And it's safe for everyone else driving!!

Put in a set of h13 PIAAs.
White light these are the best!

Hey, 4000k is damn close to HIDs optimal color.

That's a great alternative!

They're about $65-$75 on ebay.
PIAAs are seriously good lights.

Lumen output is nowhere near, however.

The lumen is one of the most misunderstood and most misquoted values used in describing light output. A lumen is simply a measure of total visible light energy (luminous-flux) produced by a light source, and as such, does not consider the area over which it might be spread. LEDs for example are extremely bright, and take little energy. Put next to a good quality light like a PIAA and the PIAA will out perform the LEDs every time. Yes, up front and close the LEDs will be much brighter (higher lumens) but farther in the distance, the PIAAs are the ones that will light the way. The only time I ever use lumens as a gauge is when I buy LCD projectors for home theater...because the screen is a mere 20 feet away. Anyway I don't want to turn this into a huge debate but illuminance is more important than lumens.
