Default Greasing Chrome

I'm seeing a lot of the local truckers are starting to grease there rigs for the winter. My question is, could my exhaust tips be done?? or would it be a fire hazzard, and if anyone knows what they use for a product? Any input would be great!

Thanks

Why not buy some cheap non chrome ones and change out for winter and then put the chrome ones back on in the spring?

There welded on, I would do that if I could. I just hate how the sand and salt pits it and takes the finish away. You never get them back no matter how much you polish them.
