We also had a Windstar with tranny problems, and I traded it in after the 2nd tranny grenaded. Ford gave my $4500 for our 99 Windstar with a blown tranny. Now I might know why. So far I haven't had any issues with the transmission in my 2010 but it's only got 2600 kms (1600 miles) so time will tell.

I posted an almost exact reply in an almost exact thread, but FWIW:

A little over a year ago I test drove a 10. It had all the weird shift issues mentioned in this, and many other threads. At the time I figured a software update would cure it, so we tried to work a deal. In the end, we could not come to an aggreement on price and walked away. In hindsight, I am so thankful we did.

In January, we drove and purchased an 11. I have not had any of the issues I did with the 10. So far, this seems to be a good one. And out of the 3 F-150's I have owned, I really think it is the best yet. My build date is 3 January, so I just hope like heck that the assembly workers weren't TOO hung over from new years LOL, but it really does seem to be "one of the good ones".

I'm a happy camper and love it!

They only get paid for the actual repair. It took 3 visits and 5 oil changes on my f450 before they believed me that it had a bad injector. They reprogramed the dash twice. Replace the cat. The whole time I had a problem injector that was filling my crank case with diesel. Each visit the dealer and the techs got paid to replace the wrong thing. They are making money at the dealer so they don't care.
You need to think about what that did to your bearings....that extra fuel starved the bearings of proper lubrication and over that timeframe...most certainly it was eating inti bearings...had the same thing happen to me on a old rodded mustang....

It's was a diesel. Diesel fuel is oil, gasoline is a solvent. I've worked on diesel most of my life and diesel oil does nothing more than thin out the oil. On a non turbo diesel you can run forever on 15% fuel diluted oil. The problem is in the high heat areas like turbo bearings where the fuel oil starts to coke.

I have an appt this week to take it into an independent reputable trans shop to properly diagnose this problem, and if this shop finds and fixes the truck I will send the bill to ford.
If they cant fix it i the first 50,000 they probably wont in the last 15,000. Their extended warranty offer is a BS was to pacify you.

The other problem is. When you have a gallon and a half more oil in your crank case you can hydro lock the motor from the bottom end and bend con rods and do a lot of damage

I don't have the problem with the tranny but i was charged for options that aren't on the truck. But I hope for a recall to help with the tranny issues

Well, on top of the esp, ford called me today and said they are going to put a NEW trans in my 2010, so ill take the free esp, even if it was to pacify me and the new trans, hopefully I will not have trans issues after the install

As for the tranny issue, that really sucks! I am not sure what the actually #s are but if enough people have a complaint then perhaps a lawyer can represent a class action suit. Just a thought.
