I agree it's a total waste. I just wanted to see what it would do. Also still wondering why you have to run unleaded before an oil change.

The funny part is no food corn is used in the production of E85 and after the ethanol is removed it is used to feed cattle, its better for them. The price of food has gone up becuse the cost to plant the field using a tractor (fuel) has gone up, the cost to fertilize (fuel) has gone up, the cost to water (fuel) run pumps etc, the cost of harvesting (fuel) has gone up, the cost to transport (fuel) the crop to market has gone up, and finally the cost to refrigerate (fuel) has gone up...... I think what he's implying is that farmers are switching to fuel corn from food corn thereby decreasing the supply of food corn which will raise the price of food containing corn.
Just ASSuming ;-)

But then the corn is still used for food. If you remove the ethanol it is still food...... Actually better food but I know he is implying E85 reduces available food... But in reality has zero effect on food supplies... The down side to E85 is it takes more fossil fuel to make than it replaces so without subsidies from the goverment it would stop being made..... But it still would have no impact on food supplies....

Dont get me wrong I dont like that we even have E85 or the fact its added to fuel costing us fuel mileage and even though it is 10% ethanol we still pay the same price for it as gas... Big oil and BP making money hand over fist on americans really aggitates me..... And I am a happy person in general.....lol.....

The problem with E85 "corn" and table corn is it is grown on the same land. The government subsidizes the hell out of ethanol. Farmers are turning their fields into ethanol corn in order to reap the benefits and the guaranteed selling of their product. This is leaving less land for table corn....and less farmers producing it. Don't think for one minute that E85 corn production has not increased the price of table corn. There are numerous articles explaining exactly how this has happened. There are also huge tariffs in place that prevent foreign ethanol from entering the country that can be bought cheaper than our heavily subsidized product can me made.

Lets not forget the huge amounts of energy and water that is used to produce this product as well. While the methods are getting better is is still a horribly inefficient process. The transportation of it is a joke as well...requiring it all to be shipped by rail or truck. None of it ever sees a pipeline due to condensation issues. The 10% blends are a joke as well. Mileage is lost by burning them...requiring the burning of more gas which is what we are suppose to be saving in the first place.

Four thousand items on the grocery shelves has corn in them and every single one has gone up in price to the consumer. Also stockpiles of corn are at a fifteen year low so keep burning that corn and maybe when you get good and hungry you will understand.

I am replying only because I don't like to see happy people get agitated I too am in agreement that E10 /E 85 is a crappy deal all the way around. However, what escapes many people is the fact that the "evil big oil" companies are publicly traded... Meaning that if one thinks they are making crazy money on your back, you can simply invest your money into the company and you too will make money "hand over fist".
I can't figure out why many people hate to see a business do well, a company meets a demand of ours then we get upset when they succeed in meeting that demand.

I would love to see congress kill all ethanol subsidies and reduce regulations on oil production so we can stop burning our food and have cheaper energy costs.

BTW, I am not trying to lecture you Gilroy, I just had an urge to hop up on a soap box this morning. Keep on truckin'!

I dont take it as a lecture and support the idea of congress getting out of business. Oil prodiction in a few countries which are being tarrifed by the government (argentina) where gas prices roll around 1.00 per gallon. It is produced refined and sold in its own country. It has been awhile since I was there. But when I was there fuel here was higher than it is now. I am not against big business, I am against the governemnt letting free enterprise run pricing. I am against E85 but it has little or no effect on food pricing. The few select farmers that qualify for subsidies actuanlly produce so little it does not eefect the food chain... It is still used to feed cattle and nothing is wasted. So in theory if you add that to an equation beef prices should go down not up. But we are an Oil dependant society and no matter what prices will go up and down with on everything else as goes oil prices.....
