2010FX4F150GILROY is spot on, I put in my first and last tank of E85 last week and that is about what I got 12 MPG, might have gotten to 14 on the highway but wasn't good. I only put in the E85 because someone had bought a 55 gallon barrel and gave what they had left in it.

Regular 87 here is $3.37.

E85 is $2.62

So it is $.75 a gallon cheaper around here in Southern MN. It is about a break even proposition in the warmer months. Towing or in the cold, E85 is worthless.

In the long run you will find that you get around 10-12 MPG about 2 to 3 miles per gallon less than you get on regular unleaded. the cost differnce in the long run has to be about 20% cheaper for it to make sense. So at 3.00 per gallon for regular 87, E85 has to be about 2.25 to 2.30 per gallon to make it break even. But you will find out good luck on your test....
Correct!

i saw a tv program last year, where they tested 3 vehicles, one of which was a F150.
they emptied the tank and put 1 gallon of reg gas, drove til empty. then used 1 gal of E85 on the same road going the same direction. the reg gas averaged 36% farther!
my buddy's Impala's 2009 owner's manual reads to expect approx 100 miles less per tank using E85!
if you do the math, you need to be paying around $2.00/gal to break even.

I saw a TV progam Trucker or something of that nature.. They drove LA to Las Vegas and back on regular gas... Then emptied the tank drove around a few miles on E85 to amke sure the fuel system was only E85... Filled up at the same station in LA with E85 they had filled Regular fuel... Drove to and from Las Vegas and did the math to figure the difference... It was about 22% less fuel economy for them but about 6% cheaper then regular fuel.... So you loose about 16%... In my personal test I was about 20% MPG difference... At the time Regular unleaded was about 7% more expensive than E85... I figuered E85 has to be 2.25 per gallon if Regular is 3.00 per gallon and it is about the break even point. Probably is slightly better then regualr fuel in wear on the engine etc... But not by much.... I did however try 92 Octane fuel and found I get about 15% better economy then regular 87 and the cost differnce is only about 8%. I am thinking the flex fuel has a wide advance range and therfore when premium fuel is run your engine can advance far enough to take advantge of the higher octane fuel.... So I have stuck to using premium..... Higher price but more MPG.....

I attempted to buy a tank of E85 once, in South Carolina I believe, on my from Virginia to Alabama. I can't remember the exact prices, but it seems like E85 was about 25 cents cheaper per gallon, still over $3.00. The pump was extremely slow, and by the time I got about 1/4 of my tank filled, it seemed I was about to me in a murder or crime scene lol. I decided I had enough gas for the time being and drove down the road to a Shell station that seemed a little safer and filled the rest of the tank up with 87. I can't really judge from this experience on the efficiency of E85, but from what I've read and my very limited experience, I probably won't waste my time with E85 unless I'm stranded somewhere and nothing else is available (and if E85 is less than $2.00/gal).

Why do you have to run regular gas before an oil change.

E85 is a rip. Total failed experiment and really screwed up farming practices.
