Wow, read the Dodge forum responses and most answered if they were comparing cars.

That answers a lot of questions right there. While I considered a ram and really liked the older style, I was disappointed in the newer style.

If I wanted a car, I'd had bought one.

I bought the Ford because of higher GVWR, better suspension, larger cabin in the front seating, and like the looks much better.

I bought my F150 to be a truck, not a grocery getter. Since I put on 80 miles per day, just getting a truck to work like a car makes no money sense. If I didn't have a use for a truck, I'd bought a lot more fuel efficient vehicle.

I had coil springs in my previous 2008 Sport Trac 4WD V8 and it pulled my 23' tall and wide travel trailer nearly as good as the F150 so I don't think the coil spring will diminish the towing ride but may diminish a heavier bed loaded cargo ride. Remember the Chevy Avalanche is also coil springs and many tow with those. However I think leaf springs do best with cargo riding in the bed as each spring has 2 points of contact instead of a coil springs 1.

As far as points of contact. The dodge has 6. Four locating arms, and then two coil springs.
The Ford only has 4, 2 per leaf spring.

As for whether coil springs or leaf springs are better for towing? I don't tow, so I don't really know.

Good luck OP. Both are good trucks, and they are well put together. You'll likely notice the Dodge forums guys are friendlier. I think they must be older, whereas this forum often times sounds like a bunch of kids. Just what I've been observing.

Not that I would buy a Ram, but they had the best Super Bowl commercial by far.

Just got out of your boat after a long decision making process. Went with the F150 for the 6.5 bed and the full seat in the crew cab. My dodge choice was not the 1500 but the srw 3500 mega cab diesel. 3 kids and car seats make the dodge crew a no go. little back ground - my last truck was a 2001 Dakota club 4.7 w manual trans. Ordered new, awesome truck - just not for kids. Still have a hemi 2004 Durango limited. Both are/were pretty much trouble free. Had the ford for 4 days now and 100miles. If you don't tow, don't have car seats, and don't have payload concerns it really is a beauty contest. That said the extra 4k off doesn't make the Ford any uglier! Enjoy your decision.

When I purchased my 2012, I took a few different trucks out before buying my ford. I test drove a silverado, a Titan, a tundra, and a ram. I won't get into the other pickups, but comparing the ram to the ford, was the easiest choice to make. Here's my list of pro's and con's for both models, lets start with the ford. I should mention that I went with a SCAB 3.7L

Ford XLT
pro:
Excellent fuel mileage
Great styling
Plenty of power
Deeper box
Better headlights
Better options for the price
Better center console storage
Better gauges
Better choice of colors
Feels like a real truck
Info center

Cons:
Smaller cab space than the quad cab ram
Suicide doors
Traction control still sucked compared to the ram
Poor abs compared to the ram

The Ram 1500 SLT I drove
Pro:
better use of four doors
All rams come standard with dual trailer plugs- 4 pin & 7 pin
Bigger cab space

Cons:
Crappy fuel mileage
5 link rear end
Crappy power for engine options
Ugly *** interior
Crappy gauges
No info center
Poor equipment options
Feels like ram got rubber maid to make their interiors
Hard seats
Stupid column shifter
Ugly chrome clad wheels
Panels rattled from new
Horrible shift points on the automatic transmission... I:E constantly shifting from 6-5th gear while cruising at a 60 mph
Turning radius isn't very tight

Now keep in mind that both trucks were in the same price range without any dealer incentives, and both trucks had the equivalent options group offered from both manufactures. This is about the most honest opinion I can give, and this comes from being in my brother in laws 2011 ram and my 2012 F-150. I didn't mention the V6 that ram offered for the year either, because its not worth mentioning, the truck that I test drove had a hemi, and I still found it lacking, and my brother in laws has the 4.7 which gets spanked by my 3.7 every time

I came from an 08 Ram with the Hemi to my 2011 F150 with the 3.7 and I honestly think that the 3.7 feels like a "stronger" motor. It might be due to the transmission or some other difference in the trucks, but I'm very pleased with the 3.7. I don't tow or haul anything heavy, so I just needed something to get me around town. The 3.7, even in SuperCrew trim, does the job very well.

I couldn't agree more, even with 33's on my little engine, this motor still pulls very good!

I dumped my Ram 1500 4x4 (4th gen) Hemi for my current 2012 5.0 Fx4. Could NOT be happier ! Get the Ford. My Ram could have been a lemon, but in my experience, it totally sucked, really, no kidding...

Oh, I DO tow, and the coil spring'd rear of the Ram sucks big time for towing. Just too mushy and wobbly.

I did however LOVE the Hemi, that was pretty awesome.
