Default Electrical question

I am looking for a way to get 12V when the ignition key is in the run position.

I would like to use some "unused" fuse under the hood if possible. For example, the owner's manual shows fuse # 11 for power running boards, which I don't have or fuse 23, 24 or 25 are not used. Does anyone have a list of fuses that are hot when the ignition switch is in the run position?

Don't have a list but it's easy enough to figure out with a test light.

from the panel under the dash, if it's not used you might be able to use #19 (power amp) or add to #38 (110v power port/radio).

Do you have the owners manual? It's in there.

I need to move my 12V power point in the console from always-on to either ignition-on or even better ignition + delayed (like the radio/nav/etc.)

I see the 12V pp is on fuse #66. I haven't taken the power distribution box off to look at the back yet. Will it be easy to just move the wire from the 12Vpp to an unused fuse, or is it going to require special connectors(?), wire really isn't accessible in the harness(?), special Ford tools(?), and I can't imagine what else.

Anyone done this with pictures? If not, I guess I'll take some when I do it and post a how-to? {I didn't have any luck searching for info on this}

How do you get to the wire from the fuse box? Does it come off so you can get to the wires? If the owner's manual says the fuse is not used, does that mean there are no wires going to that spot, therefore no power?

You must have a different owner's manual than I do. Mine just indicates what the numbered spot does, like "power running board motors" is a 30A fuse in spot 11. It does not tell me if it is hot when the key is on and off when the key is off. If a numbered spot is not used, as No 24 or 25, I couldn't find any metal clip to accept a fuse. Today I will try to install a spare fuse into one of the "unused" spots to see if will accept it. When I looked down into the unused spot, it didn't look like it had the metal clip to accept a fuse.

It looks like the fuse panel might lift off but I'm not positive, nor do I want to start pulling it up and short something.

If you know, let me know, if you are just speculating, please don't comment on this post.

Trailer brake in passenger kick panel is only ignition hot. Not under the hood but that's the one I used.

Schizbomb,
Thanks, that's what I'm looking to find. My owner's manual says it is fuse # 37 in the kick panel and says trailer brake control.

Since it is used for trailer braking (as the name suggests) what were you running with it? Did it cause any overload problems? I certainly don't want to blow the trailer braking fuse.

I used it to power LEDs for the truck. I don't know if it would be good for much else, it's only 10A.
