So I am getting my oil changed at the dealer since it is free. Speaking to my service rep I ask if he has heard of the gas in the oil issue and of course he said no. We continue to talk about issues and he says, you have the 5.0 right? I say no it is an ecoboost. He frowns and mentions he has a lot of customers with problems.

He says to make sure I do a fuel ejection cleaning every 15k or I will have serious problems at about 35k. What says the board. True or an up sale?

 

I own a 5.0 but I never read about this issue with the EBs.

He said something about the high pressure and how it can ruin spark plugs and then damage coils.

 

R&D at Ford would have solved that issue if it existed (I'd like to think).

 

2011 & 2012 had mis-gapped spark plugs from the factory. The gaps were all over the place. In 2013 they corrected that issue.

However, it seems that the eco likes new plugs every 30,000 miles or so.

 

That may be what he was getting at. Plugs should last 100k. I also mentioned the plug gap issue.

 

On my wife's DI 2.0T (VW) I run a can of BG 44k through it once a year to clean the fuel system. It costs me $25 and I have had no fuel line problems or injector problems. The car is 5 years old and hums. For an F-150 you might need 2 cans because of the size of the gas tank. I can't say my butt dyno feels a difference but I had heard it was good stuff. Other people can chime in on that. It's far less expensive than a dealer up-sell.

 

yeah, Check the gap or just replace the plugs and gap them first. A stock eco will run much better after they are gapped properly. A tuned eco wont run worth a damn until this is updated.

 

Just use some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas-problem solved.
