So now I am really pissed off about this truck. Went under to see about greasing the driveshaft. My drive shaft does not have a rubber boot anywhere and is all one solid piece. Well now the seal is leaking where the drivshaft goes into the transfer case! WTF? Oil all over underneath cab. Truck is a 2010 w/ 31,000mi, I already had the clutch pack replaced in the rearend @ 16,000mi. Greased the driveshaft at dealer once. Front Ford emblem replaced because chrome was pealing. Oh yeah now I hear a ticking noise in the motor, it is a 5.4, and my SYNC system does not stay connected with my phone. I wish I never got rid of my 2002 powerstroke. Maybe my grandpa was right when he said all he did was lived at the Ford dealership when he had his vehicles, all Ford's all the time.

Default Drive line viberation / shudder

Ok, i am bringing this back to see if there have been more issues like mine. Both the dealer and Ford customer line said they have not heard of this problem.
Sorry for the long story:

I had a 2010 F150 Lariat 5.4, 6.5 bed, crew, used with 30,000. Stock. It would settle when coming to a stop. wheels are stopped and the back of the truck would settle/shake down into place. during acceleration it would shake for the first 10 feet. To me it would be a motor mount, tranny mount, or slip yoke. The dealer could not find anything wrong. They tried greasing the 2 pc drive shaft, replacing the clutch plates for LS, and different shims for drive shaft angles, reballance the drive shaft and couldn't fix it. since i only had the truck for 3 days out of the month that I owned it (rest of the time it was in a shop) I took it back. I had to fight for the money even with the "30 day money back deal".

So I gave up on finding a good used truck and bought a brand new 2012 FX4 crew, 5.0, 6.5' bed. I put larger tires and a leveling kit on and it drove smooth as glass for 10,000 mi. Now it does the same settling into place and shudder on acceleration. I towed a jetski trailer the other day and the whole truck started shaking so bad from 5 -20mph that the center councle was shaking enough to spill soda out of a half full can.
it is at the dealer now and they said that it was a drive shaft angle problem because of the tires and leveling kit. I asked what about the stock 2010 with the same problem. they replied with silence. then i aksed about driving with a load in the box or towing becuase the drive shaft angle changes as well as going over bumps. more silence. basically i got them to say that i have a usless truck because if the drive shaft angle changes, it will shake. they cant tell me what range of angle that the drive shaft requires in order for the truck not to shake. Ha. what a load. to me, that means that they dont know how to fix it. or even what the problem really is.

I then called the Ford coustomer line 1-800-392-3673 to which they said that they have not had any complaints like mine. If you have had similar problems or still have them please calll them and let them know. I told them that i am going to trade it in for a chevy and it seemed to get their attention.

I am going to try a couple different things: check all motor mounts. Replace the transmition mounts, possibly with the ones from a raptor, inspect the slip yoke, and install new blocks in the rear end to raise it up a little.

It sucks that I have to do this to a brand new truck and that Ford is no help. I will see which if any help or solve the problem.

Let me know if you guys have had any success.
Thanks

I've had the shutter on my truck both coming to a stop and under initial acceleration. When I brought it to the dealer they added grease to the driveshaft and it helped for about 5,000 miles, then came back. Now I'm out of warranty and don't want to pay them to put a Band-Aid on it. The issue seems to come and go every few months so I haven't bothered fixing it myself.

There is a tech bulletin concerning this issue. Mine had the problem and they removed the boot and applied the grease that Ford called for in the bulletin and it was fine for about 30,000 miles. It started again and I had the bulletin repair done again and all is good once more.

It is a very annoying thump and feels like there is a lot of slack in the rear differential. Ford needs to redesign this driveline if you have to have this done every 30k miles or so.

I will try greasing it this weekend and let you guys know the outcome. I have lost all faith in my dealer. Said there were no TSB on my truck at all and that they inspected everything and looked ok.

Default Drive Shaft Carrier Bearing Failure

Greetings,
I have a 2005 F150 with 50k miles on it. Today, the drive shaft carrier bearing assembly just broke dropping the drive shaft. I have had bearings go on the tensioner pulley as well as an idler pulley which really causes me to question the quality of the parts Ford puts in these vehicles.
Any thoughts and experiences changing out the drive shaft carrier bearing assembly would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The two piece drive-line issue is a huge problem. If you want to really see this. Go to your local ford dealership and drive ANY new f150 Crew 6.5' bed with the two piece driveline. They ALL do it. Mine was not noticeable until about 6500 miles. I took it in 9 times over 6 months and it is no better. Driveline angles, replacement driveline, springs, took my canopy/shell off?? Not sure why? Still exists. I am minutes from going lemon law. $50K and vibrations like a 1965 VW beetle from a start. Frustrating.

Does the 5'6" bed use a single drive shaft? Just wondering….

I want to step in and do what I can to help, jmichaeld. PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealership so I can start researching options.
