Differentials
I would go with the Motorcraft gear lube that Ford recommends, (75W90 I think), and be sure to use the friction modifier with that unit. Your dealer will have that too. It's the same stuff the Ford factory limited slip differential uses.
I don't know that there is a benefit to the auburn limited slip unless he has an "open" differential to begin with. It will provide a little more torque to the wheel with the most traction, but not much. The Auburn really isn't that much different than the factory limited slip unit.
Well just got my Auburn in today hopefully install tommorow and finally have a limited slip. my 2 wheel drive platnum came with 3.15 gears non-limited slip so hope this will help pulling my boat out of the boat dock.
why not just get a truck that already had a traction lok?
Any type of limited slip differential is a MUST in a 2wd truck on a boat launch ramp. Depending on the size of the boat, you may still have a challenge. One-Wheel-Drive won't cut it on wet concrete.
I had a 26 foot speedboat, with a big-block Chevy that with the trailer weighed 6500#, and I could spin both rear tires on my 1996 F350 Diesel on the launch ramp, and that was with a Detroit locker in the rear. Never needed 4wd though.
Also, even though I'm no fan of clutch-type limited slip differentials, the Auburn does have a little more "grab" than the stock Ford unit.
