Default Coolant flush oddity... Help?

Hey guys,

I had to replace some coolant pieces so I flushed the entire system.

-Drained the entire system.
-Replaced effected pieces.
-Closed pet ****.
-Filled with coolant flush and water.
-Ran to operating temp + 10 minutes.
-Turned truck off.
-Opened pet ****.
-Put water hose into coolant bottle.
-Ran water until clear liquid came out of pet ****.
-Closed pet ****.
-Filled bottle with 1 gallon of coolant
-Filled bottle with 1 gallon of distilled water.

Ran truck for awhile so air bubbles would burp out. Here's the problem, the level in the coolant tank hasn't gone down. There's only 2 gallons in there and the coolant system holds 4.25, roughly. When the truck was running I had the heat on so everything should have been opened up.

So, as it sits, I've put 2 gallons of liquid into the coolant tank and no more. I should be 2 gallons low.

Does anyone have any ideas?!

Thank you!

You may have some of the flush still in there. I don't know how to solve your problem, but I think I would make sure the flush is all out. (somehow)

When you ran water until clear and closed petcock did you drain all of the clear water out of the system? If not then the system is already full of water from the hose and will not suck the coolant/distilled water mixture out of the tank.

After the flush/water mix had ran for 10 minutes or so I drained it all out. I kept the pet **** open until the flow of water stopped. I even used my mouth to for a seal around the coolant tank opening and force air into the tank, thus flushing the remaining water out of the system.

When I was done nothing at all was coming from the pet ****.

Same thing happened to me. For whatever reason my thermostate didnt open until i took it down the road 2 or so miles. It got to 225 then opened. I then topped it off with 2 gallons of 50/50 mix. No more issues. my dad says it vapor locked but idk.

Well, since you did all of that, I've got nothing....

What was your temp gauge doing when you ran it to burp the air out?

That makes sense, the fluid won't cycle until the thermostat opens.

My temp gauge got to operating temp but the air was cold. Eventually it got warm as more air was burped out.

I was searching other threads, the only other suggestion I saw was to park the truck nose high to assist getting the air out of the system.

Funny you mention that, I read the same thing. My driveway has a steep incline so I gave it a shot. Didn't seem to help.

The truck has been sitting a little over an hour now, turned off. It seems the level in the coolant tank is lower which means more has been sucked into the motor somehow. I leave for work in about 10 minutes... Maybe the drive will fix the problem.
