Default column shift to floor shift?

Can this be done, changing the column shift to floor shifter? I have found the entire assembly with the shifter cable still attached. Thanks in advance.

I personally think that would be a tall order. You'd need a new steering column to remove the existing shifter, not to mention the PRNDL indicator in the cluster. You'd have to switch the dash trim to accommodate the new flow through console, need to reroute the shifter cable...

It may be possible but damn it'd be a lot of work and expense. I say simply swap your jump seat (if that's what you have) for the center console like so many have and be happy with that for MUCH less money..

lol, thanks. I have read and the cable I believe hooks up right under the dash, also I like the rear vents.

I'm still a fan of the column shifter.... I've had discussions on this forum about this topic and still can't see why u'd want to lose a seat for a floor shifter.

Anyhow, ur looking at quite a bit if work n $. Good luck though, it's always a good thing when u can think it, then accomplish it.

Love the ***** out of my floor shifter and console, not only is it twice as big of a storage area as the fold down one if you have the extra seat and also 2 more cupholders but I also have the super crew, 2 people in front 3 in back, how many people are you really hauling around that you need 3 in front, not to mention the uncomfortableness of 3 people crammed in one seat, leave that to the backseat, haha! Perhaps if you had a single cab or the extended cab it would be more beneficial to go with the column shifter but I love the floor shifter. Personal preference perhaps. I do agree that trying to convert would probably not be worth the time and money however.

Keep in mind that the instrument cluster would need to be changed unless you don't mind have a gear selector in 2 different places. I would agree it would be a tall order unless you were a Ford tech with all of the correct parts and disassembly and assembly instructions.

With a factory console shift, there is the console flow-through air conditioning also.

The lower center part of a column shift dash is different than that of a console shift truck.

I think one would have to have access to a salvaged truck to have all of the needed parts to make such a change-over. Then there would potentially be a question about possible warranty issues.

This can be done, I don't think it is as hard as you may think. some of us live in the old age with linkages and mechanical times when most of the new transmissions and tranfer cases electronic. someone on another forum has completed this, once I get more info I will pass it on. I am debating this also, how is manual shifting (if you want to call it that) with the XLT shifter by the way
