You should definitely post up any thing you find out, I'm surprised nobody else has gone to the dealer for this yet, I guess we're all going by the "wait and see" approach.

I have had several experiences with this "ticking noise" through my truck and family/close friends trucks (all fords 2010+) what I have narrowed it down to is loud injectors- the new engines-especially the 5.0L as well as the 5.4 have loud injectors. That ticking sound is heard primarily on cold start because of the cold delivery/injection of fuel-or at least thats how it was explained to me. Yes, it could also be piston slap but I have been to the dealer and heard it myself. It seems that these trucks just have louder than normal injectors. Hope this helps!

I'd like to think that its the injectors, but its a very loud noise, not subtle at all. And it only does it above a certain rpm.

All of my injectors were just replaced along with spark plugs because my truck idled rough when it was cold. My SA said something about updated new injectors? So they knew the problem but I don't know much more than that.

And yours had ticking problems before this occurred?

Put a tank of premium fuel in it and see if it stops. Mine has a spark knock at lower rpm with 87. They are just so lean for economy

Yes it did have the ticking problem. Like a time bomb. But it's perfect now and no problems. Took the 3 weeks and they couldn't give me a loaner because I'm not 21...
