'Check brake system' error message on dash screen
Has anyone come across this? Randomly last week, this error message popped up saying "check brake system" and the brake and ABS light lit up. My husband went and drove my truck to make sure the brakes still locked up and stuff and they do, but I have had this error present for about a week now.
I took it to the ford dealership and they said the computer system module to my brake system is not working and I was given an estimate of $1100 for that part.....
I have also had issues with the 'tire pressure sensor default' error in the past. I am starting to get really irritated. Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks

More information on the truck would help but I would not drive my truck around for any length of time with a check brake system light on.

It's an 2009 f150. I have had it since 2011 and had no issues with it until this started. Brakes still work fine but I can't afford a $1200 part right now and was wondering if anyone has run into this.

I have an 09 as well, and I have the exact same issue. Waiting on a backordered part for the dealership to fix it. If your problem is the same as mine, it's the ABS module. It will still stop, just not as quickly. Not fun pulling my camper without ABS, though!
As for taking it to another shop, I can guarantee they'll be cheaper than a dealership. I'm using a dealership because my truck is still under extended warranty, so it'll cost me a $50 deductable.

Good to know it will still stop- I have still been driving it and it hasn't given me any problems. I am going to try and take it somewhere else this weekend and get a quote from them. You are right, the dealership told me its the ABS module that is not communicating with the system and that they need that part first before they can continue to run anymore diagnostics on it. I just can't believe they quoted me $1200 for one part!

I have a '12 that does this intermittently. Shows at start up and a re-start it goes away. However, my ABS light does not come on, the "brake" light does. No impact on braking performance whatsoever, ABS or otherwise in my case.
I've read that it can be related to a wheel speed sensor, but I haven't had a chance to nose around under the truck yet. I've read that it can be dirty or an intermittent connection. I'll try to get under it tonight and check back.

That is interesting that you have read it involves a wheel speed sensor because I have had issues with my tire pressure sensor default error message in the past.....I will have to get it looked at.
