Hello all!! I am wanting to add a cb radio to my truck because, well.... I have one in my Camry, so why not!! First of all, single antenna or dual? Never ran dual so not sure what the perks are?? Secondly, I don’t know where to mount the antenna. I was going to do on the back side of the bed, in between the bed and cab, but not enough room. Then I was talking to a coworker and they mentioned on the corner of the bed. I was like perfect idea! Then got to looking at it and remembered I have a bed cover on there. I could mount on the hood or rear bumper but don’t really like the look of either one of those locations. Anybody on here have a cb in your truck? What locations y’all come up with for antennas? Also, what location for the radio? For the radio I could do the top of the dash and it would look fine, but if I could do underneath somewhere on the front under the stereo would be better for looks... Ill take pictures and add them after daylight. Thanks in advance!
Single antenna for starters, the pick up is not wide enough.
I have one I use on long trips and have a Wilson Magnetic Mount on top of the truck running the wire in the right rear door.
It stays inside the garage so the antenna is pain no matter where it is to stay on the truck.
Agreed single, I like the Little Wils/ wilson 1000's also they are great and easy to remove and put back. If you are gonna offroad i would suggest a flexable one or a Firestick. I have a firestick on my YJ and it has a taken a decent amount of abuse. Honestly you need to put it up at the highest point you can get it.
I am running a K40 mag mount on the roof. I have had the antenna now for over 30 years. They are great performing antennas! Only problem for me is that on my 2010 you can not center the antenna on the roof as there is a valley going down the center. Mounting an antenna directly behind the cab is not a good idea. It is too close to the cab and will be hard to match properly. Your radiation pattern will suffer also. I see a ton of guys around here putting a bracket in the front under the hood so that the antenna mounts just above the fender with a firestick type antenna. Not sure how well they perform though. The K40 can be removed easily by twisting the base coil and off it comes leaving the mag mount inplace. I am running a Uniden CMX760 for a transceiver. It's OK. I would rather have my Galaxy DX959 but there just is no where to mount it easily. I am also a Ham Radio operator and have two other radios onboard besides the CB. Manufacturers really need to step up to the plate and design some radios with remote heads
In my truck I have a Stryker SR-655HP mounted on the rear panel of the center console & a Stryker SR-A10 Antenna. Depending on the settings I usually have a range of about 15 miles on the interstates here in Mitten. (p.m. me & I can send pics to you.)
My go-to radio is a President Bill w/ a Hustler Mag-mount antenna.
It's a tad larger than a Samsung S9 & the bracket allows many mount placement options. Channel up/down on the mic & mine usually gets out about 7-8 miles. Fits nicely into the side panels of the F150/Superduty consoles.
Here's mine mounted between the center console and dash console. I run the Wilson 1000 on the roof and get perfect signal and can pickup/transmit great distances. Record so far has been 12 kilometers on a perfect day.
I had the dual antenna setup on my truck tool box but I wasn't getting great results, it was more for looks. Now just to pass the HAM radio test and a mobile unit is going in with the CB. For those asking why we even use CB's, some of us go places your smartphones can't pickup signals so they are just useless in case of an emergency, or we need to communicate without phones. Love my CB.
