Can this be fixed?
I was driving down one of Tucson's "fine" roads and tried to avoid one of those construction pylons with the non-functional orange deflector on top. Well, I missed the one on the driver's side only to have my passenger mirror cracked by one! I was not happy, and it put the rest of the day in an off mood.
I've been quoted anywhere from $200 on up to just under $500 for it to be replaced. Now, I've considered getting one of those (garish) chrome mirror cover kits and custom painting them to look OEM. Doing that can be anywhere from $30 to $80 dollars.

they are easy to replace and I would suggest either what you stated as the chrome cover painted or go to eBay and look for the actual mirror. They are available and maybe someone here will chime in as there are several that replaced them with tow mirrors and may get rid of them!

Try a local wrecking yard. With so many F150s on the road, you're likely to find what you need.

Lucky it wasn't your driver's side, mine got whacked while parked last month- just the case is cracked but it's a $700 replacement up here in Canada for a dimming mirror. I don't have it so I am going to put black duct tape on my 48k truck.
There's house poor, and truck poor.

I think I might have one of those at home, i will have to look, I had switched to power folding mirrors, and when I get home later I will let you know, you can have it, all you have to do is pay for shipping
