Default Bilstein 5100 Issue

2014 STX Supercab, 4x4, 5.0, 65k miles

I installed these adjustable front shocks, at full lift (2.1") and the driver side coilover makes a clunk, like the spring is shifting, at full lock in either direction. The shocks are great, had them on my other truck with no issues. Any ideas on what would cause this? I checked and rechecked everything and I cannot see anything that could cause this issue.

It's most likely your tie rod. Did you torque it while the truck was on the jack or on the ground? It needs to be torqued while the truck is on the ground.

Hopefully will be soon. Been itching to get out and work on installing my factory tow, but alas it's like being in a smokers lung out there.

Yeah, it was in the air, if I loosen then retorque it will that help?

Hopefully, I've got a motorcycle project in the shop that I made some good progress on before the smoke. I hate being stuck inside the house.

Yes, loosen and retorque. All of them that you had off, not just the tie rod. Shock, too. That may not make the noise, but its bushing’s life will be shorter if not torqued under load.

Aye, will do. Thank you for the help and I'll post back in here if the problem doesn't go away.

I had a clunk when turning after installing my Bilsteins. Turns out I didn't tighten the two bolts on one of my lower control arms enough and it was shifting in the oval bolt holes. You really have to crank on the bolts...

I also had a clunk on mine when hitting any kind of bump. Took it back to the installer. He said one of the bolts was loose at the top of the strut. He retightened everything with it on the ground. Been good to go ever since.
