Default Bed Step Installation Question

I recently picked up a used set of bed side steps (the retractable OEM ones). I found install instructions on the Ford Accessories web site, except I can't figure out what this extra bracket is for (it is at the bottom of the photo.) Info from anyone who has installed these or can look at their step and see what the heck this bracket is for would be appreciated.

I think it may have something to do with locking it where the step can't be used. Look at the 2 holes mid-frame of the steps. Does the 2 bracket holes line up with it?

If that isn't it I don't know what it's for. I guess it obviously isn't shown in the instructions?

I installed these on a 2009 which I no longer have, but I just looked at the instructions I still have and that strap (as they refer to it, and where it goes, on the right and how to install it) is pictured in not less than four of the install pics. It is not an extra part, but rather one integral to the install. Looks to be a support. Good luck with the steps, you will like them a lot. Thanks

Here's a copy of the install instructions I downloaded from the Ford Accessories site:

Am I missing something obvious here?

Now that is strange. Very different from my (earlier) version on instructions I have here. Only thing I can think of is that the bed step was changed somewhere along the way and the strap thing (in bottom of your picture and also shown on my instructions) was integrated into the manufacture if the bed step and thus the installer did not need to assemble it on site when putting unit on truck. And, so, you would have one of those earlier versions.

I will see if i can take some shots and post here for you. I am also gald to just mail them to you ( I cannot scan here). Thanks

Hey JR, where did you end up finding these? Nice little truck mod. Good Luck with the installation! I do not know about the extra bracket. I'm sorry.

Here are two pages from my instructions ( 5 pages vs your 4 pages, 2008 vs your 2010):

Would you be able to share the instructions, having a hard time figuring out the hardware
