Anyone Test a 2011/12 vs 2013 EcoBoost with the Larger Turbos?
Has anyone done a good test drive comparison of a 2011/12 vs a 2013 Ecoboost yet? I'm curious how the new larger turbos and other plumbing changes sound and act in the 13's compared to the 11/12 models.

hmm, wasn't aware of the turbo change? Are they still Borg Warners?

According to Full-Race Geoff, they bumped the compressor wheel size from 48 to 51mm, and all are still BorgWarner.

I am curious if the difference is very noticeable. I've seen others report some sound differences with the 13's.

I had a 2011 Eco and now have a 2013 Eco; it did seem to me that I noticed the turbo whine more when spooling up in my 2011 but not sure if that was because the twin-turbos were totally new to me back then and now I am just used to them. But honestly don't feel any different than before.

I have a 2011 and my friend has 2013. He drove mine and I drove his we didn't notice any difference. Also my 2011 never had any of the problems that have been posted here.

I drove both the '12 and the '13 when I bought mine. The salesperson told me the only differences between the two were the grille, HIDs, and radio/nav unit.
FWIW, the fuel mileage guide was the same, and driving them 34 miles each, I didn't notice a damn thing. Mileage was the same(reset the gauge before I took them both out), and I purposely stood on the accelerator(s) when entering the freeway NOT to see if there was a power difference between the two years, but to simply see if one was a 'Good' one and/or one was a 'Bad' one. Motors are different from vehicle to vehicle, so it's not uncommon whatsoever to get one that's a slug, or one that's a rocket-ship.
In any event, again, no noticeable difference.
I am curious about the turbo's being different. I'm gonna check to see if they're different P/Ns.

I test drove a 12 then ordered a 13. On the 12 I noticed the BOV "PSHH" everytime I let off the gas. On my 13 I never hear the BOV at all but hear the turbo whine/whistle alot more than the 12--it sounds like a Peterbuilt.

I have a 12 and a 13. No noticable difference with the engine. No issues with either. The 12 has a 4.10 gear the 13 has a 3.73. The 12 is a little quicker from the gearing.
