Default Another leaking 3rd light question

Sorry if my questions are already answered, but I could not find anything after searching many many threads.

I have a 2010 F150 Lariat Screw (original owner). I had a couple of leaking brake light events during the first year or two, both addressed by the dealer. First time was a new gasket, and then they replaced the whole light (I think that was the order). Everything was fine until today, when it started leaking again. Many of the threads on this site suggest applying clear silicone to stop the leak. Do you re-use the gasket when using this approach? If so, do you put it on both sides of the gasket?

I also read on one of the threads that there is a new, thicker gasket. Is this a proven fix? Is this something I would get from the dealer, or is it aftermarket?

Some have replaced the light assembly with an aftermarket light from eBay. Anybody have any repeat leaks after using one of these lights?

Lastly, am I missing any options? Is there one option that is considered better than others? I'm not trying to skimp on fixing this, so I would appreciate some feedback on the best way to fix this once and for all.

I replaced mine about 3 months ago with a new light with the thicker foam like gasket, so far so good.

Put silicone on mine, no gasket. Across the top and down the sides only, left the bottom open. No leaks.

Ditto, did it a week or two after I bought it new in March 2013. No leaks.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be going the silicone route on mine. I sure hope this is the final fix!

Before you do this, with light in place, blue tape around light. Then remove and apply silicone to fixture. Seat and tighten and then run your finger to smooth out. Peal off tape.

You may also want to check your back glass for the leak. On my 09 when it would rain the passenger side of the headliner would get soaked. Thought it was 3rd brake light. So sealed it..didnt fix it so bought a new style one. Same. So sealed it...nothing. found the back glass was what was leaking.

Thanks Ed, that's what I'll do.

I'll double check the rear window, but pretty sure it is the light. Thanks for the tip.
