Default Almost an accident

I was driving my truck and had come to a stop light. The light turned green I proceeded to make a right turn after viewing traffic and a semi wasn't paying attention to the light and was up my a*s very quickly. I stomped on the pedal to only find out that the truck took off very quickly and just as quick the engine slowed down due to the rev limiter.

I cannot tell you how close I was to getting crushed by this truck and I am still shaking. I just got off the phone with the service department for service first thing in the morning. Now, I can produce this about 90% of the time with my truck as I have tested this several times today.

My truck has the SFE package which has the 3.15 rear end and is pretty fast. I am not feeling very comfortable at this point in time since I can replicate this very easily. I had the tranny TSB done and had them look into hesitation issues I have complained about in the past which is still not rectified.

I have a 2009 screw Lariat w/5.4 and have had my truck in twice for this problem. Ford says they cannot replicate, so they cannot fix it. It doesnt happen every time, but it has almost caused 2 different accidents.
Step on the gas and it's like I am in a 4 cylinder car. Eventually it gets up and going, but takes far too long from what it should.

Just got back from the dealer and they verified my issue along with the thunking sound and hesitation.

The service tech checked everything out and found out that the TCM update wasn't don't correctly on my truck so he redid it. He also checked my driveshaft and found that the grease in the spline (we have split driveshafts) was hardened and the spline was siezed up so he removed the driveshaft, seperated the 2 pieces, cleaned out all the old grease and performed a new proceedure that Ford posted (he didn't say it was a TSB or not) that replaces the stock grease with a teflon based grease which he says cost Ford around $80 per pint.

So far so good on the hesitation, tranny smoothness and no thunking as of my 30 miles of driving but I need to wait for the learning period to be sure. I was also not able to reproduce my issue from yesterday after the TCM reprogramming but could easily prior to it.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hmm, hopefully they fixed that problem in the 2010.

Scary to say the least. I hope this fixes the problem or I will keep complaining and post with NHTSA at the very least.

I'm not quite following. I have the 3.15 rear end. What is the SFE package?

Also, are you saying that you floored your car from a stop and your tranny failed to shift? Instead, your rev limiter kicked in?

Glad all is well.

The SFE Package is only the 3.15 rear end on the 2009 trucks, in 2010 they offer the rear end as an extra but not as the SFE as they discontinued the package.

I floored the truck after I made the turn and the truck was still in first gear and at around 5k rpm it dropped down to 2k rpm long before it would shift to 2nd gear causing my truck to lose speed very quickly.

Those are the times that I'm glad I got the 2V with the 4 speed... No tranny issues whatsoever and it takes off fairly quickly when I need it. It is by no means "fast" but much quicker than my old Focus, which was a sloth off the line. That said, I will also say that I am glad you didn't get hit by one of the idiot semi drivers of the world. I know not all are, as my father has been a truck driver for nearly 30 years and hasn't had a single accident, and is as cautious as you could possibly be in any vehicle, let alone a 60+ foot rig that weighs 25 tons. Just keep doing what you're doing and watch that rear-view!!!

so for, not regretting mine. Moms 08 screw is so doggy in town until you kick off the OD & that's with the 5.4L.

I did take mine in to get the PCM reflashed due to some odd shifting behavior. since then, no issues for me. I'd prefer a manual, but they don't even offer it anymore due to the low uptake.
