Default Adding remote start?

I have a 2011 FX4, and want to add the above product. I have located the OEM Ford part online, and the reviews state that the person is able to install in less than an hour. I assume that the dealer would need to flash my computer. Has anyone added this feature?

I had one installed. It is plug n play and requires a computer reflash. The dealer wanted $4oo.oo to install the kit. but I bought the kit seperatly from their own parts dept. for $200.00 and gave the service dept. an hours worth of labor. Which it took them a litle less than that. $315.00 otd.

I personally would look into an aftermarket one. The factory autostarts have limited range and are one-way (doesnt alert you when it has started). This may fit your needs, but there are definitely better options out there.

I beleive ford has two way setups with the extra fobs and extended range. You can also get it with an alarm.

I've been looking for a remote start for my truck. During my research, I found that for the price of the factory OEM remote start, you can get a much better aftermarket for about the same cost with more features. 2-way remotes eat thru batteries at least 1 a month.

I'm looking at the Viper 5704 with a 2-way LCD remote that's rechargeable (no batteries to replace!). It has a ton of functions and add-on modules to customize it (window control, tilt sensor, glass break sonic sensor, backup battery, etc).

I also thought about installing it myself but I think I'm just going to bring it to a shop to have it done.

Funny you made this thread, I was actually wondering today in class if there was a market for the factory OEM remote start.

I would consider selling mine to someone if it's worth it to pull it out. Probably a little bit better price than you would pay Ford for the part and I could upgrade.

Aftermarket is the way to go, much better than factory for sure! I have an Astro Start brand two way system but no lcd screen. It has a light that shows green or red if your attempted command worked, batteries last about a year and the range is about 3/4 of a mile. 380 installed out the door from my dealer. My next one will be an alarm/start combo system from compustar that I can use my smartphone for the remote anywhere there is cell signal so you could start it from three states over if you wanted. Its closer to 800$ or so I believe.
