Adding Backup Camera
My 2011 XLT/XTR does not have a backup camera. There are wires going into my tailgate however. Does anyone know if the truck would have the wiring in place already to install one if got the camera and got an appropriate head unit for the dash? I know alot of car manufacturers throw a full wiring set up in every car and then only use what the buyer pays for as far a model options. Is this the case with the 2011 F150s?
My 09 XL DID not come with a B/U camera. I added one specifically for making hooking up trailers easier.
This is the camera I added (replaces the OEM tailgate latch, currently $60 on Amazon):
I have also seen aftermarket Cameras that are built into a replacement FORD Oval

Originally I had it display on my (large) GPS on my windshield..
Over time I got annoyed by the big GPS, so I replaced the (good) OEM factory radio with a (cheap) Double DIN head unit that also displays the B/U camera.
Doing this I lost the time display on the dash, the digital display now "always" displays the 'startup' commercial "F150 Built FORD tough"
I did have to run all the wiring myself, there was no existing wiring for the camera.
Later I acquired an '04 Chevy Avalanche, it's OEM radio was FUBAR I bought the same Double DIN head unit for it, (it comes with it's own camera) and installed it, I made my own bracket for that camera...
both have good clear displays, more than adequate for hooking up a trailer, with the side benefit my wife uses (the rear camera) when she "backs" either of my trucks.

In the engine back, look at the upper passenger side of the firewall, you can see a plug or grommet that might already have some wires poking through. I shoved the camera wires through there and got to them inside the cab by dropping the glove box and fishing around for a while.
