I have a 2011 xl screw. It was prewired but never could get it to work. I would love to find out why it's not working.

The new automatic headlights seem to be more complicated on the newer trucks. I noticed on my Lariat this evening that there are two levels for the auto headlights- I had not noticed before. There is a level of darkness where the healights come on and as it becomes darker the interior (radio, climate controls, etc) light up. I thought that I had a problem at first b/c when my headlights when on, my dash did not dim and instrument lights did not come on- I'm like "ok, here we go". As I drove it became darker and the interior panel lights did come on. I know that my 08 was not like this. It also had auto headlights but when the headlights came on so did the instrument panel. It had me worried at first. It would appear that there may be two sensors or control modules for the headlights man interior panel illumination.

Yeah, this is what I mean. From what I've found, it seems to not be guaranteed to work on every 2011+

Yes, this is how mine work as well. It will do it in.the rain too, lights on, dash off. As long as its still bright enough to see the dash normally. I noticed it going to boston, right after I installed it. I was in the ted williams tunnel, saw my lights on the car in front of me, but my dash was off.

I also read somewhere that xl trucks are more considered a fleet truck and that there is a possibility that day time running lights could be a preprogrammed feature that is activated once the new headlight switch is installed. If that's the case, it would appear that the switch isn't working by really is. I haven't been to the dealer to test this theory though. Seems kinda far fetched to me.

Default 2012 Auto Headlight upgarde

It has been a couple of months, has anyone gotten an answer about being able to upgrade the 2012 SXT to auto headlights?

I added automatics headlights to my 2010 stx. There is a sensor in front of that little storage area on top of dash. I ordered that pulled the little plastic dummy price out and connected it right in. Then I ordered an auto headlight switch off eBay and popped old one out and connected wires for new one and BAM you now have auto headliggts. I spent less than 50 bucks and took about 5 mins to install. Not sure how different 2012 is but it worked on mine.

Yeah, there's a bunch of people who did it on their '11+ trucks, but are having problems. Like the lights stay on all the time. It seems '09+10 don't have that problem. And they work as they are supposed to.

Default Ordered Parts

I ordered the switch and sensor for my 2012 I will see what happens and let everyone know. It might be as simple as having to trigger the DTR's to the off position.
