Default 5.0 upgrades coming

After coming from a Roush Mustang last year I finally broke down and decided to do some mods. I have a 5 star tune and AFE intake with lid and tune coming as well as a Gibson dual sport exhaust (similar to raptor side exit). I know there are nay sayers who say the intake and exhaust does nothing. It was huge on the mustangs with the 5.0 so I thought why not. I'll post some numbers and my opinion when I get them installed.

Hi.

Uh, I think you'll find the truck responds differently.

I asked Stage 3 about just this - here was the response.

Note that the Solo exhaust is also FAR better than that Gibson ( which, being chambered is actually more restrictive than yer Stock muffler ).

So almost ALL of the gains are in the custom tune - to do any better you need to add a Boss or CobraJet intake manifold. Otherwise, the stock OEM CAI is already flowing more than enough fer the stock engine. As is the stock exhaust.

Just FYI - I'd return the Gibson and AFE if possible. Keep the custom tuning.

Good luck.

You sound like a guy who wants some power. After you get the 5 star tune I would try an SSI tune. Mike makes good tunes from what I have heard you get more power but with SSI you will have even more power and a soother drivability.

Well plans are eventually to maybe do a boss intake with headers but. I haven't decided how far I am going to go.

The superflow gibson muffler is a straight through design and flows very well and your right it may not add much other than sound. I didnt want super loud just a lower tone. My Roush was almost too loud. Everyone on the Mustang board will tell you a CAI or Exhaust is worthless without a tune. My Roush had a 5.0 and was tuned with exhaust and CAI. It woke that car up.

I was already running a 5star tune in my truck so we shall see.

Thanks.

I hadn't realized Gibson changed the design. The one I had years ago was chambered, and even directional - and there have been reports about baffles breaking loose and rattling.

Good luck with your mods!

On a modern platform like the 5.0 the tune is always going to be the biggest bump in power/mpg (as you know coming from a Roush) but a CAI and catback always help. For me the Roush CAI was more about looks and the sound of it than a HP increase and the Corsa dB exhaust was for the sound more than the power-the tune that may follow is where I'm hoping to see bigger gains on paper!

What stage Roush are you coming from?

Interested to see how you like the mods. I'd like to tune my 5.0 soon.

I had a stage 1 Roush. So the engine was stock. I added the suspension exhaust and CAI. Then tuned it. It was a fun car.
