5.0 with 50 series Flowmaster?
Hi guys does anyone have a new 5.0 with a flow master muffler specifically the 50 series. How does it sound and is there alot of inside drone. Or the magna flow? .Trying for the throaty mustang sound. Thanks.
I have the Magnaflow 12579 on mine ($126.41 shipped from http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-12579 ). This is the longest of the 3" center In/Out mufflers that Magnaflow makes. I would rate the sound level as a moderate amount deeper and louder than stock under load and completely quiet while cruising. That is with the factory resonator in place. If you wanted slightly louder you could remove the resonator or alternatively you could buy the next size down muffler for a little less sound dampening.
I had a Flowmaster 40 series on my previous truck (2002 Silverado 1500 5.3L V8) and I ran a Flowmaster 80 series for about a month on my 2001 Pontiac Firehawk 5.7L V8. I hated the Flowmaster on both vehicles. It droned like crazy down low and killed the sound up top. I decided when I bought this truck that there was no way I was putting a Flowmaster on it. There's a reason they have the nickname Dronemaster.

I did a bunch of research on this for about a year while I saved up my money. I flagged people down in their truck to ask what exhaust they had, watched a million youtube videos and so on. Here is my opinion based on what I learned.
I narrowed it down to Flowmaster and Magnaflow. I only like the sounds of those two brands.
With magnaflow, they come in different lengths. The 11 inch are the shortest and loudest. Too loud for me. The 14 inch were nice but a bit on the loud end. The 22 and 24 inch were way way too quiet but still sounded nice, deep, and smooth. On my opinion the 18 inch are just right. A perfect blend of rumble and smoothness.
With Flowmaster, they have many many series. I only bothered with the standard car/truck mufflers like the 40 and 50 series.
In my opinion the regular 40 sounded the best. However, it was just too loud. The deltaflow 40 was Quieter. The super 40 sounded just like the 40 but with a lower deeper sound. The super 44 were were way raspy for me. The 50 were the smoothest with still a great sound.
I personally would recommend the Magnaflow 18 inch, or the flowmaster super 40.
For my 2010 5.4 XLT Screw 5.5 bed, I ended up doing a true dual exhaust set up with a dual in / dual out 18 inch Magnaflow.
It was a tough choice between that muffler and the super 40.
If you want louder, go with the 14 inch or smaller magnaflow or flowmaster 40 or super 44 series.
If you want quieter, go for any magnaflow bigger than the 18 inch or the flowmaster 40 with delta flow or 50 series.
Hope this helped
