2014 My Ford Touch Navigation
Danny, thank you for your explanation of this, ive been searching high and low for an answer and it seems like you have done a lot of research on this and have done a lot to get the nav to work, i do feel like there is some way to program it since it can give your exact longitude and latitude of where your truck is so there is some kind of gps in there just not one that shows the maps
I do not but spoke with several Ford techs, a Regional Manager etc... It supposedly cannot be done. If the vehicle didn't come off the assembly line with nav designated for that ViN it cannot be added.
I also searched Focus, Escape, Tuarus, Flex, F150 forums and no one has been able to do it.
I offered to pay $1000.00 at 3 dealers to add nav to my Focus (I really wanted it) all called Ford tech and tried to find a way and all came back and said they couldn't.
Not that it's imposible but me or anyone else on any forum has been able to do it.
Seems stupid that one couldn't pay the MSRP price of $795.00 and have it added at the dealer since that is what the sticker price is on a new vehicle but you cannot.
If you know something different I'm all ears?????

Makes sense about the "as built data". Wonder why it would void the warranty unless you mean just on the MFT.
That IDS tool is a little pricey for me to purchase and I don't know how to use it for this test. I'll keep trying to find someone who has one and doesn't mind exploring around to figure out navigation for me.
So, am I hearing that I'm really better off just to buy a tablet or external Garmin GPS for my non-nav Sync truck - even though the truck knows exactly where it is? There's a GPS in this truck. Just no maps.
If I could find a friendly mechanic who had Ford IDS, is it a simple modification to the As Built Codes or is this like hacking at the binary level and you need someone who can speak in ones and zeros.
I know a mechanic who has six figures invested in tools and computers. If anyone outside a dealership has an IDS, this guy does. If I can narrow the answer down so he doesn't have to spend 4 hours monkeying with it, I may give him a call.

It can be done. I have done it. It is not easy and it is more than just as built data. You can either have the one upgraded in the vehicle or one can be done up for your vehicle and you swap out your APIM (the thing attached to the back of the 8" display).
