Ha yea its a good drill bit but bad operator,, too small trying to go too fast

Have you tried adjusting / lubricating the pin that the latch catches on? The pin slides up and down in it's mount and maybe it's just a touch too high or low causing the mechanism to stick?

I put my powered sub behind the seat a couple of years ago. Haven't opened it since. Too much trouble to access the space, so I have a tub in the bed of my truck for jumper cables, jacks, straps, chains

If the bit is sticking out at all you can probably grip it really tight with a pair of vice grips and twist it out. Your best bet might be to drill a second hole if there's enough room, or try to come at the original hole from the opposite side and then use a punch to back the bit out. This will be easier to line up with a drill press.

Yea I can get it out but I'm still not sure I'll use that space. I don't carry around much stuff

I have tried a little, not sure what the issue is.
