Default 2013 Back up Camera

I have been bouncing around the forum looking for some help on the Install of a back up camera on my 2013 4x4 XLT. Either I have no luck or I am not looking in the right place. I do not have a back up cam and want to install one. I just do not know if the auto dim rear view mirror (BU5A17E678LA) would be the display or if the 4.3 screen for the dash would be the display. In reality I do not know if I can just buy a camera and then plug and play. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the answer?

My 2014 STX didn't come with a back up camera and it just had a basic mirror. My folks bought me a Pyle back up camera system that came with a mirror with a 4.3" screen. I just finished installing it earlier today. Seems to work great.

I don't think there is an OEM version that uses the 4" radio screen at all. It's either the mirror or the 8" screen.

2014 had an in dash option for the 4.3" screen.

I just got an add on camera and screen for christmas that was recommended by another member here. Easy install and works great.

If you want to use the radio screen, you will need forscan to edit the as built so that the camera will come on when placed in reverse and turned off when out of reverse, the rear view mirror option will be pretty much plug and play.

Rear view camera is standard equipment on the 13 XLT, if it don't have it, you don't have a 13 XLT most likely an XL or STX or some lower level trim level. Or a previous owner removed it.

2014 XLT has the rear view in the 4" radio display. 13 has it in the mirror.

That's not true. Lots of 13 XLTs had no camera. Even FX4 & Lariat had no backup camera standard in 13. All required options/packages for it.

You can do either. You can plug & play either but it gets speedy. You would replace the entire mirror or can use your in dash screen after it is reprogrammed. Both require cameras & harnesses. As mentioned you can also just add your own additional screen.

Shows up as standard equipment (no extra charge) on my window sticker in the functional section. Not an option package.

May be different for trucks in other countries, I'm in the USA.
