Default 2012 heating issue

2012 F150 heating issue

Hello everyone. I have a 2012 F150 that has a heating issue. I’ve had the truck since 2017, every winter it’s like the air gets plugged up, especially when it snows. I know there are some issues with the blend doors and the cores getting plugged with dust, but I don’t think that’s the case as it’s really only when it’s cold. I’ve removed the blower motor and don’t see any debris blocking anything, and if I warm the truck and shut it off for a while it seems to slightly get better oddly, but rarely ever gets better if I just drive it.

Anyone else have this issue? I have no idea what to do at this point.

Only with heat? Not AC cooling?

correct. AC seems fine always, and if I turn the recirculating on it works fine too.

You might have a plugged heater matrix.

Does the fan speed sound ok when you set temp to cold (do not engage AC)

yes, and blows more. I thought maybe that was the case as well, but why would it get better as it gets warmer?

Sorry, it’s odd to explain let me try again.

I live in Minnesota, in the winter time my blower motor sounds like its plugged up (loud whistle, lack of air movement) while the heat is on. It seems to get better after the truck is has warmed and has had time to sit.

If the recirculating air is on it blows fine, with both the heat and the AC, almost as if the cabin air intake is plugged, but it isn’t. I’ve checked.

It’s an issue with the heat specifically, so that makes me thing heater core matrix might be the cause, but as I said, as the truck warms up it seems to get better, not not completely.

it’s almost as if snow get sucked in and plugs something up, but I never see snow come through the vents.

That certainly seems the route to check out. If it doesn't happen going thru the cold side of the HVAC box, it probably isn't the air intakes or the blower.
