This rust is surface rust that will occur on unpainted metal. some manufactors paint these parts and some don't, if they aren't painted then it will rust but on trucks especially even if it is painted when rocks and debris start to chip the paint underneath the truck the metal will rust quickly. These parts will out last the life of the vehicle and the rust will not be a problem. I would be a little more concerned with rust on the frame.

BS.
My '04 Lariat looks clean underneath compared to these photos. if this is normal, then why does my 7 year old truck have less rust than a brand new one?

Some of these photos looked almost as bad as my old '72 Chevy Cheyenne which spent a good part of it's life towing crab pots to and from my brother in law's boat.

Its like you people have never owned a truck or car. If its not flaking off in chunks its surface rust and is normal will not harm anything. EVERY other part on the truck will fail way before rust causes a failure. GET over it.

Default Rust Problem

Guys I've read so many post about if its normal or not to have rust on new trucks and I agree with the ones that say it is not normal. I had a 2000 F150 Lightning that when I sold it had close to 100,000 miles on it and never any touch up under the truck. We have a 2008 F250 now with almost 60,000 miles on it, no rust or corrosion issues under it at all. I have a 2011 Ford F150 Platinum that looks like its 20 yrs old underneath. Without getting too long winded, I'm currently going through arbitration with Ford on this matter, it is being handled through the BBB Autoline. I wanted you guys to know their (Fords) written response to the BBB in regards to this case.
Quote: " In some instances the bottom of the vehicle is covered from the factory with paint. Due to the rising costs of paint supplies and that it is not a necessary process, so some production plants are not painting the bottom of the vehicles." unquote.

Now, I really would have preferred that mine come from a plant that paints, because they surely did not charge me any less for my truck than they did the consumer whose truck is painted.

I love the truck, but there has to be some accountability from a manufacturer to offer a product that is equal in value to all consumers.

Thanks!

O got about 8000 miles on my xlt and haven't noticed any rust but after reading this I will check again, normal or not, damaging or not ford shouldn't allow a brand new truck to be sold with that much rust.

I noticed some rail out of the railroad track today that was dated 1927. It has never been painted and is still functioning.

Non sequitur.

Last time I checked, a rail was not a moving part. Also a rail is frequently "scrubbed" by the wheels of the train cars.

Just thought I'd post... Just went outside and checked mine... No rust that I could see. Everything looked painted on mine. Only area there was any rust was on the calipers and that was because they had gotten wet and sat there for a few hours.
