2011 6.2L has kicked the bucket. What comes next?
Evening y'all,
We just got this 2011 Lariat Crew Cab with the 6.2 V8 back in November with just over 20k miles on her. Somehow, water made its way into the engine and we just got word we need to replace it (metal flecks in the oil). We're concerned about finding a suitable replacement with regard to what will fit in the engine bay, fit the transmission, etc. What is our best option moving forward? Should we find a used 6.2, swap to a 5.0, or something we haven't thought of? Open to all kinds of ideas. Would a third party manufacturer be the way to go?
i just wanna clarify that I did NOT power wash the engine. At no point was the hood opened followed by high pressure water.

Old Fart
I would stick with a F150 or Raptor 6.2

6.2 trucks are unique with hydraulic power steering and different cooling than the rest of the F-150 line. you’ll need to use another 6.2 or make the truck a Frankenstein....how did water get in the oil? Did you go and verify all this to be sure?

We started having problems after we powerwashed it after doing some off-roading back in December. This shop has been giving us the run around with the tech having some kind of "emergency" and leaving the shop. It's been in there for over a week at this point. We called em Monday to see what was going on and we were told they were gonna run a compression test today (which they did) and get back to us today (which they didn't). So we called at 6:00 to see what was going on and they told us after doing the compression test they found "oil where it wasn't supposed to be" then checked the oil and found flecks of metal in it. They're already closed for the night so we'd have to verify that tomorrow.

What the heck did you do when you power washed it? Did you open the hood, remove the oil cap and power wash the cams inside the valve cover?

Let’s back up, what symptoms or codes did you have? If you power washed under the hood you likely got a coil wet and that will cause severe misfires as the spark plugs for that cylinder will not fire the mixture. I don’t see how the water got inside the engine unless you had the oil filler open...I feel you may be getting taken advantage of here and should get a 2nd opinion. Water under the hood = wet ignition components = bad running engine

Yeah, I'd issue an immediate cease and desist to the shop. It sounds like they are about to fund their 401's with your earnings. Unless they can give you a highly detailed description of the supposed problem, get it the hell out of there.
Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself.
×× The 6.2 is about as close to bulletproof as any engine ever made.
