Did you have to get some kind of bracket for your JBL door speakers jdunk? Or do they bolt into the existing holes?

I don’t have the jbl’s but I did make my own brackets out of 1/2” mdf for now. I will eventually buy a set or make a set out of plastic.

Here is a little more info on the basics of what I have done so far. This is more than you want right now but good future reference. I'm waiting on some other things to be figured out (Sound deadening source from DIYMA, Helix DSP.3 to be shipped) before I continue on.

Here are some speaker adapter plates that nineball recommends. I have never used them, but if he recommends them I trust him.

have used these guys for years with great results. i did have to double up on the driver's side door mount as one would not space the speaker out far enough to allow the window to pass, but that could not be the case for others depending on which speaker they use and it's mounting depth.

Question on that for you. I see they make 6.5" spacers as well as the adapter plates.

I sent an email to them and asked but you might be quicker.

Would you buy two of the adapter plates and glue them together or would you buy one bracket and one spacer and glue them together?

The nice part of the spacer would be that I could get the 1/4" bracket and a 1/2" spacer and get the speaker within mm of the factory grill location. The extra 1/4" would be perfect (I think, I still need to measure to be sure)

i guess it depends on your final needs. for me 2 of the adapter plates were needed driver's side, only 1 on the passenger. i don't think it would really matter in the end so long as you used at least one adapter to gain the larger mounting area. if you really need 3/4" spacing i would probably personally go with 3 of the adapter plates for ease of mounting, and it would make the mounting plate that much more stiff to have 3 of them sandwiched together (vs 1 ford-shaped plate and a 1/4" round spacer). plus if you found that it was a little too much you could always remove one plate as needed. don't really have that option with 1 plate and 1 spacer.

Why not buy an adaptor that is made for our trucks to fit the 6.5 perfectly instead of having to buy two thing to glue together? I'm not sure what year truck this is for but Metra #82-5607 is an adaptor for 2015+ for the front speakers to fit 6.5".

I looked at the metra ones (my truck is a 14) and, while they aren't that bad, they also aren't the best either. I have never bought a pair that I didn't have to modify in, usually, fairly major ways.

I am also using speakers that have a big basket diameter all the way down (stereo integrity tm65) so I need something that is going to be at least 1/2-3/4" thick in order to clear the metal on the door.

That's interesting to hear about your experiences with these adapters. I rarely ever have to modify them to work on a number of speaker combos. Then again I don't have any experience with Stereo Integrity speakers since I don't carry them. I hope you find a solution that works for you. If we have a hard install that requires custom mounts we use HDPE and/or ABS. They work well, extremely durable, and don't have any issues with mold.
