Default 2018 F150 Lariat Sport SuperCrew...Audio Planning

I got a 2018 F150 Lariat Sport SuperCrew with the B/O audio system.
I'm looking to put a pretty decent audio system in but been out of the loop for years and not sure what is good anymore.
Not looking to enter any competitions just want a clean loud system. I will be doing the install myself a long with learning how to tune the system.

SUB'S:
I already ordered a MTI Acoustics Stage 2 Sub Box with (2) JL 12TW3-D8 Subs.

AMP's:
For amps I'm looking at the following JL models:
JL HD750/1 & JL HD600/4
JL Slash 600/1v3 & Slash 300/4v3
JL RD1000/1 & RD400/4
I'm still trying to do as much research on amps as I can.
I also will be ordering the MTI Acoustics Amp Rack once I figure out what amps I will go with.
I'm not tied down to JL so open to other suggestions..

Front Door Components:
I'm at a loss on 6.5" Components. I want some that are clean and have great mid bass.
Trying to stay under $600 and been looking at the JL C5-650.
Open to all suggestions here.
I plan on putting some type of sound deadening on the doors, along with covering the access hole with plexi and Fast Rings.

Rear Door Speakers:
I usually put the matching set of 2-way or 3-way speakers for the back fill.
Doors will get the same treatment as the front.

I have Forscan, but I have not seen if it works with the B/O system. The threads on it are all over the place and last I read it didn't work on the B/O System. If it does I will definitely go that route.

So definitely looking for opinions on the amps I listed and options for other amps, some component speakers, rear fill speakers and sound deadening.
And if the Forscan wont work some options to get the best sound out of this system.

I wont be looking into a wire kit until I get the amps and start planning their placement.

Let me know if I missed anything.

Once I get everything I will try to do a build thread to show progress.

Thanks

Herb

Have you looked at 6x9 component sets? More midbass out of a 6x9 than a 6.5.
Morel 692
Focal ISS-690
ID XS-69

Hybrid audio and Audiofrog also make some, but those start to get pricey. Then, just go with a matching set of coaxial in the rear. If you are brave, you can run an active front stage if you get two more channels of amplification.

Any of those amplifier choices will be more than enough to power the system as you have it planned. You can fit the amplifiers behind the rear driver's side seat. You may also be able to fit them in the little storage area under the same seat. You could also just go with a highpower 5 channel amplifier like the JL VX1000/5i or XD1000/5v2 (since you seem to like JL). The volume difference between sending 750 watts vs 600 watts to two subwoofers will be negligible

Nice choice on the subwoofer setup. I am going with one 12TW3 in a similar enclosure (I am copying some of MTI's design ideas but making one with dual 3inch forward firing ports).

For deadening, look into Noico or Kilmat on ebay (50 or 80 mil, your choice). All butyl based deadeners are so similar it is not even funny, so don't pay for a "name". Also, do a search on mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam. Deadener just stops vibrations, it doesn't block out outside noise. Here is a tutorial https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/how-to

Thanks for the great info.
I didn't even know they had 6x9 components I will look into them.
I'll look into the active front stage also. I definitely want this system to sound really good.
I been checking out videos on sound deadening earlier and will add that one to the list.

Thanks again.

you can’t go wrong with any of those amps. They are all pretty small and you can fit them in multiple places. The RD’s are a little bigger though.

C5s are great but in that price range you have a lot of competition. Make sure you listen to other options. I found the silk dome tweeter of the JLs and lot less harsh than the competition.

You are now faced with the same question I was, what are you going to feed all this equipment with? If you are going with an aftermarket HU or going with with a high end DSP like the Jl twk and fix, I say what you have planned is great. However, if you are going to keep your stick HU and just use a simple LOC like an LC7i, you may be able to scale back a little and not notice much difference.

Example
I listened to the C5s and C3s in my truck before install. Based on my setup, I could barely tell the difference between the two.

I also found that dual 8w3v3s were more than enough and I have to turn them down. Due to my sub choice I was also able to go with an xd700/5.

I find the the stock HU and the LC7i are my biggest bottlenecks. I’m very happy with the setup but if I wanted better I’d replace the Factory HU or go with the JL FIX AND TWK instead of the LC7i. Their new VX line amps also has this functionality built in and should be considered.

Thanks.

Now you got me looking at 5 channel amps.
I'm keeping the stock stereo and seeing how there doesn't seem to be a solution for the B/O stereo I might have to look into something to get a good signal to the amps.

That being said anyone have any input on the JL VX1000/5i?
It looks to have the same DSP capablilities as the JL TWK.
Would this be a good option and I assume I still need the JL FIX also?

I like the idea of just a 5 channel amp it will make it simple.
But the software to program the FIX and VX1000/5i look challenging but fun.

I was going to go with (2) JL 10TW3's but I figured I rather go big and be able to turn it down if it is too much.

I should be able to go listen to some set-ups tomorrow and decide on some components.

Thanks

Herb

A 5 channel amplifier simplifies wiring/installation. Lots of the 5 channels out there put out similar power numbers as you could get from two separate amplifiers.... plus it is usually cheaper too so you can get something pretty high end. I am going to run a sexy old school Soundstream REF5.1000 that does 90Wx4 (for front active) + 450Wx1 (for sub). I got a cheap amp for the rear speakers.

NICE INSTALL Averagegolfer2! Very clean.

Yeah I'm going with the JL VX1000/5i. It is cheaper then the other mono and 4 channel amps I was looking at and it comes with a DSP. And it is a pretty small amp, I should have all kids of room on the amp rack.
Also going to get the JL FiX86
I'm liking the JL C5-650 and the JL C5-650X, I going to try to get out and see if I can listen to them next week.
Going to order or pick-up some sound deadening next week.

I had some old school Soundstream amps back in the day. Those were the best amps I have had, they were huge. I regretted selling them.

Anyone know of a harness that will work for the 18 B&O system? I don't mind cutting and splicing though.

Thanks

Herb

To my knowledge, there isn't a harness for the B&O yet due to the digital connection type.

I'd recommend you look into the AudioControl LC Series amps as well. They have an award winning built in dsp and AudioControl is known for flattening factory signal. This is especially important considering we don't know the necessary changes in forscan for the B&O system and considering the Rockford DSR1 is not yet compatible with B&O.

Used Noico in all of my doors. Great product, no odor. Completely necessary!

Lots of good selections in this thread. I've been really impressed with my AudioControl amps and Morel Tempo Ultras. I was going for high fidelity and that is what I got. Haven't installed a system in my 18 yet but here are two different revisions of my amp rack and equipment I built for my 16 Lariat with Sony. The first utilized morel amps and passive crossovers, the final variation was all AudioControl with active crossovers and man did that system sing! The Morel Tempos really blew me away for their price point. They were warm and precise with excellent midbass. Used a DSR1 for the dsp and factory integration. The entire system was 100% plug and play with no splicing of the factory wires and took all of 20 minutes to remove before I traded for my 18. Fingers crossed the same integration comes for the B&O.
