Towing problem
Hi everyone,
I know this issue has been addressed previously, but I'm having trouble finding the thread. I have a 2017 F150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost engine and 76K miles. I'm frustrated with the vehicle because every time I tow a trailer the engine will die after exiting the freeway. Thankfully, I have been able to restart the truck and keep it running by throttling up to 3000 rpm while manipulating the throttle and brake in a delicate pedal dance. Through research I have discovered that this is a very common problem with this F150 year range. A previous thread had even given out the Technical Service Bulletins that define the issue I am having (TSB 18-2249 and TSB 20-2264). I took my truck to a local Ford Dealership. I gave the service advisor the TSBs and a very thorough description of the issue I was having while towing. He was skeptical of my complaint but indicated he would have his team take a look at the truck. After spending 2 days at the shop the advisor told me his team couldn't find anything wrong with the truck. I was charged a $239 inspection fee and told I needed to have my brakes done and an oil pan leak fixed. I declined to have those services performed, paid the bill, and proceeded to call Ford Customer Service. I was given the run around by 2 different representatives at Ford Corporate. Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this issue? Both the dealership and Ford Corporate were uninterested in the TSBs I gave them. They tell me that if the truck doesn't throw any codes or stall while in the presence of the service team, I'm SOL. I just got a travel trailer, but I won't tow with the truck anymore because it is too stressful to constantly stall at a stoplight or stop sign. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I must have seen posts about this issue on other, more non-biased, sites. Nonetheless, the TSBs are legit and it’s a very frustrating problem to deal with. If anyone has an actual productive comment please let me know. Otherwise, I’m not interested in hearing people cheerlead for Ford products. I now understand the reason Toyota has a reputation for reliability and Ford has the reputation for Fix or repair daily.

I even googled your problem and no post came up on here, so obviously you got the sites mixed up.
sounds like owner neglect & buyers remorse
my 2010 5.4 3v f150 with 170k miles runs like a champ. Tows, plows, hauls and i still get 18 mpg highway.

Thank you but I don’t have a 2010, 5.4 blah blah blah. I’ve owned several vehicles that have gone over 200K miles with proper maintenance, none of which are Ford products. Productive comments, dealing with this specific issue, by people who can actually read are greatly appreciated. Actually, forget it. This site is a complete waste of time. Keep powerstroking Ford y’all. I’m out.
