Learned how to post photos and went wild last night. Without further ado:
My name is Ron and I live in Virginia. Retired from USAF in 1994. Joined in 1977 so I could go to England (spent a total of 10 yrs there). I was into the Minis since high school. Retired for good about 6 yrs ago.
Always been mostly a Ford guy, even though I have owned many different makes. From 1995 to 2010 I drove a 50 Ford sedan nearly every day. When I started driving a 57 Chevy, everyone asked me why I had switched. I told them that I was getting too many speeding tickets with my Ford. Last 10 years been driving 1950 F1 done up as Tow Mater. Wife has 57 Nomad and 63 Plymouth Valiant (like the one we had when we married 47 yrs ago). Traded our 1st valiant for a new Maverick in Dec 69. In 72 put 289 in and then in 74 put in 351w. Learned alot building that Maverick.
When we bought the Nomad 2 yrs ago, I bought a 94 F250 from same dealer. It is extended cab, long bed, 7.3 turbo w/201k miles. Very nice truck but I got the itch for a new one. Wife finally gave in and on April 12, I ordered my Race Red, 2016 XLT, Screw, 3.5 eco, 6.5 bed Sport SE, 36 gal tank, 302a, Max TT, navigation, etc. Picked up from dealer on May 23. Have done many "mods", won't list here, but see my profile if interested.
When I had that 1st Maverick, I wanted to go fast but didn't have any money. So I had to learn how to do it myself. As they say, the rest is history. Getting kind of worn out working on cars, so my plans on buying a new truck was that I would take it in for service and it would have a warranty. I wouldn't have to mess with it. So what happens, I am doing the mods, did first service last week at 7k (too many horror stories about dealers). I have always done my own work from oil changing to building transmissions. If it's not right, I can only blame myself.
Almost done (I can be long winded, ask any of my friends). We tow a small TT. It's a 2016 Retro. Also will be pulling a car trailer when I get my 1955 Ford Gasser done (it sat on a shelf in Michigan for 43 yrs).
So far I am really enjoying my truck. Drive it everyday. Need to get Tow Mater (F1) running so I can cut back on miles on the new one. F1 has 302 w/AOD trans. The 302 decided to lock up about the time I got the new truck, must be jealous.
I've really been enjoying the forum, lots of good info. Wish I had seen it before ordering my truck, although after the fact, the way I ordered mine is mostly how others recommended.
Sorry about the book, hope I didn't bore you too much. Need to go out and install my rear Hellwig sway bar. Thanks for reading. Ron
