Default intro

Hi Chief64 here,
I am basically a new owner to a 91 f150 302 4x4.
Loaned a friend some cash and took it in as collateral. Well I may have gotten into a mess.
No brakes first off, it took over an hour and a half for a twenty minute ride. The tranny shifts terribly hard but according to previous owner it is supposed to {gee did I have stupid stamped on my head when he was telling me this NOT, but he is a friend so what are you going to do} No speedometer action. This was my introduction to the world of f150, I am am going to need a lot of advice so I hope you good folk out there are up to the challenge, by the way the brakes are fixed and a speedometer cable has been ordered. From what I have seen by just browsing, I am at the right site to find all of my answers to life with a f150. Thanks in advance

it sounds like the tranny is starting to show early signs of going out.

Not good, but it can be rebuilt, by the way where do you check the fluid level on it. Where the dipstick should be it goes into the cooler. Any suggestions?

Well I found the dipstick, it stops half way up to the top of the engine compartment and was buried under a mass of insulation from the AC. I usually drive a manual much easier to work on. Give me something with wings on it any day of the week.

It doesn't make it up no where near the top, an acquaintance of mine said it was a sealed unit but that didn't make sense either.
