Default Hello everyone

I have a 1993 f-150 which I rebuilt an 87 lincoln motor for. It is a 5.0 liter. MY big problem is the truck overheats any time the weather here in northeast PA gets above 80 degrees F. I did take notice that my fan from the 87 motor is pitched opposite of my 93 302 motor. Does any one know if this is my problem for overheating or do I have some other issue.

Also can any one tell me if the timing chain cover from the 93 engine will fit the 87 block. I know the front of the timing chain covers are different but I want to know if the holes in the block are the same. I believe my problem could be the water pump may not be big enough to handle the trucks weight and cannot displace enough water fast enough to cool it down. Or am I just thinking way to hard on a simple problem. Please any advise will be very helpful. I have already changed in a new thermostat 2 weeks ago and still gets overheated. Thanks to all who read this and if you can help.

Welcome to the site! What belt setup did the Lincoln motor have and which did you use? The serpentine system spins the water pump in the opposite direction than the v-belt system. That is why the fan blades are pitched opposite. If you combined parts from both motors then the water pump may be spinning backwards.

Yes the 87 motor did use a v-belt and I am using the set up from the truck. Thanks for the insight. I may need to get areverse spinning water pump if I can find one.

I have a gasket manual and it shows the same timing cover gasket for the '87 Lincoln and the '93 F150 so I assume that your old cover will bolt to the Lincoln motor. Switch that out and use the truck water pump. Or check the water pump mounting flange and maybe it will bolt to the Lincoln timing cover, too many different water pump gaskets to give you a definite answer on that, but the design may be incorrect for reverse spinning water pump.

Sean I want to thank you for your help in this matter. I really appreiciate the time you took to help me figure out my problem. Two saturdays ago I tore the front end of the truck apart and replaced everything. The truck has been running great since. It has no longer over heated even this past weekend when it got hot I ran the hell out of the truck and it did not get above the "r" in normal. So thanks again.
