Back to Ford it is.
New Old guy here. Normally I prefer trucks with Straight 6s, 15 liters and made in Detroit but I digress....Just bought my Wife a 2008 F150 S-Crew Midget bed after years of hearing her bitch about how she hated the 2013 Malibu that had less than 500$ in parts replaced over an 11 year, 205k Mile lifespan (transmission went out so it's done) It's a 104k Mile KR that had previously been hit in the rear quarter panel but had be fixed with a new rear end as well as a new driveshaft and rebuilt Ford Trans that was so clean you could eat off of it. Engine had no leaks including the power steering pump add to the fact the coil packs were a lovely shade of brown and not black(iykyk) so I knew this one was it. I'd get my wife the King Ranch she wanted all while ensuring the least amount of headaches when it came time to open up the tool box or so I hope...
Had an old 85 Ranger STX decades ago and while had mileage sucked with 4.10s it was reliable as hell. Hopefully I didn't shoot my self in the foot by getting the an F150 5.4l....

No doubt. Minor wear and tear but it seems to have been very well taken care of for the most part. The transmission and brown coil packs sold.me. being a mechanic and my shop have the good ole spark plug shooting v10 Triton service trucks and 6.4l field trucks the last thing I wanted was an earlier model F150 that didn't have the revised heads/plugs along other things. For the most part everyone I talked to that had these 5.4ls had nothing but good things to say and good friend has one with 170+k mile that just towed a trailer to Alaska and back without a breakdown.
5.4 is a decent engine overall. Not high performance. Can be reliable if taken care of the way it seems to be needed to be taken care of. When I had one, I was told to change the oil every 5k and to only use OEM oil filters. If you do end up having to do the timing, there is a huge thread that goes into detail on how to do it and you can ask questions of those that have gone through it. Great bunch of people that will help in any way they can.
That oil filter was a BITCH to get to. I do like the drain spout Ford put there but the location could have been better lol. I have Alldata for the service manual/repair manual but oddly enough Ford and their diagnostic procedures/Tests are not where NEAR as straight forward as Nissan or Chevy when you look up the codes.... Just requires a bit more digging to find the correct pinpoint test
