Default Old posts = Off Limits???

Man, I get blasted for commenting on an old thread and then reading through another someone else brings up some concerns for a different old thread and a "Senior Member" blasts the guy for posting on an old thread!!!
I'm on a ton of motorcycle forums, and have been for years. Is this to be expected on a car/truck forum? If so, then why keep the posts available? If you're not "allowed" to comment on old threads then lock the damn things! The motorcycle forums try to limit similar new threads - I get that. But seeing how there's a lot of old vehicles (like my "new to me" 2010 F-150) if we're not supposed to post/comment on old threads then can someone tell me "how old is old"?

I know there's always "those people" but, damn...I think we both had some legitimate information to provide to the threads. Just because they're old you can't discuss anymore? Please provide me with the dates of threads I should avoid adding comments to for fear of the "self-righteous" don't hammer me again! I get it that I'm the "new guy" here so I'll tread lightly.

I don't get it either.

Who gives a crap if it's an old thread.

In my opinion I would rather someone dig up an older thread, especially if it contains useful information. The ones we dont like are the people digging up years old useless threads just to add useless comments. My suggestion to the people that dont like when someone digs up an old thread is to simply report it to us and let us handle it instead of crying about it and creating drama. Some of those people that complain about necroposting are the same ones that will cry because someone didnt use the search function. We cant please everyone!

I agree that is the answer to an 8 year old thread says "You should do this......" when it's no longer helpufl/useful, then why pull up a new thread.
Recently 3 old threads were revived by a user directly answering or instructing what the OP should do. It was not at all relevant as it applied to OP only, not others.

Geez! Within a matter of a few days as a member on here I am learning who is pristine, more intelligent than anyone else in the world and should be bowed down to! Most forums take a few weeks to figure this out!
