Something along those lines to help with the everyday posting / question asking and answering.
This ends up becoming a popularity and immature payback system a lot of the time unfortunately. It is a great idea, but sadly people tend to abuse it.

I agree there, it could turn into something like that. Those that are actual users and visit often should be able to figure out who knows what, and those that come to just ask a question and disappear forever can take their chances.

Yeah... I guess I can see that happening if left up to the other forum members to distribute. What I was meaning was something that another member can flag as "useful" or "helpful" that would send a message to the mods/admins similar to the "report this post" icon (or however that works). It would then be up to the superiors to divy out those "recomended" points based on the merrit of the post if they see fit.

I agree with this, too. However, you don't know the intentions of the person seeking help. It does not seem like this site has the kind of traffic that are the "ding, dong, ditch" kinda people. Yes they do exist here but for the most part, those who seek help searched Google for an answer and it lead them here. I know that I was one of those people. And as for the people who are "actual users and visit often", we know who to PM for specific topics of help that we need. I know that if I have an instrument cluster bulb go out, I can PM Bucko who has replaced his. If I have trouble with my (future) tuner, I can PM Obusnizzle or Sin cause they are the gods of tuners. People who are new to this site should have some way of recognizing the people that are contributors and knowledgeable from the people who come on here to post about being stuck in thier front yard or that they did a burnout until they ran out of road.

EDIT- Sorry if this post offends anyone (if you read this, you will know who you are). I was merely needing an example of stuff that boosts post count but does not help anyone looking for an answer to a specific problem.

We have found that the reputation function that can be implemented ends up being abused a lot of the time and does turn into a popularity contest and can cause problems more than it helps.

Yes, good point. I suppose a main reason to join would be because of a pressing problem that needs attention right away. When given good information they may decide to stay and meet the helpful people, while when given bad information they may just leave.

Once again you crack me up. I knew I wasn't the only one who felt this way about this person.
