Is your truck tracking you?

Last one: we've all heard of( or seen) the black box normally located under the passenger seat- right? The US Supreme court has issued many rulings-all of which say, the state and/or federal governments don't need a court order to harvest the stored info in said box. You can't do a thing about it. If you buy a device that will empty it, and remember to use it in the event of an accident(or worse), I guaranty you WILL be convicted of a felony. Welcome to the brave new world!

Don't look now but some states want to tax your vehicle by how many miles you drive in a year. How do you think they will get that info? I'd say in about 10 years cars wont need an active driver. The cars with drivers will be forced off the road because robot cars will be safer and that will cause the insurance companies to raise rates out of sight for driver cars. The golden age of motoring has disappeared. Soon a trip to the relatives will be a tollway trip at the government determined speed and you'll be looking at the same car 100 yards ahead of you for the entire journey.
Tesla, I believe already has it IIRC. Within 10 years, maybe less. Technology advances so much faster these days. It remains to be seen how much push back the public will give on the subject. In some ways it could be a good thing. People with long commutes could get a lot of work done on their way to and from work. How about sleep? But I know I would hate to not be able to drive. I just enjoy it too much. I would hope there would be some kind of "grandfather clause" to let some of us continue to pilot our own vehicles while we are safe to do so. Maybe a new kind of hybrid where we can put it in autopilot when we get drowsy....?

My dad has a Lincoln MKZ, fully loaded. With brake assist, lane assist, cruise assist, and the automatic brights he didn't touch the wheel or a pedal for 10 miles on a high way. It was insane. It's amazing what can be done in cars and trucks now. Hopefully cars and trucks that are piloted automatically won't kill any off-roading that we're able to do.

When you hook up your cell to your vehicle you now have two way comms, it is really easy to piggyback some code on the wireless signal (providing you have gained access to the cell network - fairly easy if you have the skill set) that will access your onboard computers.
