Why the difference?
I got a step up, MPT has already written the tunes and installed them, I'll be good to go as soon as I get it! They emailed me last night about what I had, and what my PCM was. I emailed them back this morning, and within an hour I had an email that they shipped it. So far I'm impressed with their customer service. Oh, I have lifetime tunes as well, so if I change something, they'll rewrite the programs for free.
Heh, I'm getting excited!!

I think you may be confused in the fact that you are talking about the canned tunes rather than the custom ones.

.
Huh? With 5star and the SCT X4, they put them in the tuner before they ship it to you.

after you've sent in your completed tune sheet, we here at Stage 3 will forward your tuning information off to 5-Star where your choice of tunes will actually be built. iTSX users will have their tunes emailed to them as attachments to be downloaded to their smart phone or tablet. Anyone who's purchased an X-Cal 3, Livewire TS, or X4 will have their tunes pre-loaded on their tuner of choice which can then be uploaded directly to your truck right out of the box.
I think Stage 3 also said to take the truck to the Stealership to verify that it has the most up to date tune on the truck. If you ask the service department for the strategy you wouldn't have to hook the tuner up to it before the tunes.

They must have changed procedure since I got my custom tunes.
In any event good deal, thinking back in my case I bought the extra powertrain warranty so that may be doing what I'm thinking of.For the powertrain warranty they have to get more info then they send back tunes addressed accordingly,

Even with the custom tunes you will still need to data log and/or dyno testing to tweak it into harmony, .

Hhmmm, I may be confused. I'll know when it gets here. Hope I'm right though, it could be awhile if I have to go to the dealer or anything. I've been lucky the last few days having time to get things done.

Gaahhh!!!. I had no loads for Thursday or Friday, so started the weekend early.
I'm downstate at my wifes house now, and tracked my order for the tuner. I waited for the mail to run yesterday, in hopes it would be there. Nope! Today I looked at the tracking, and it's delivered, 200 miles away. Oh well, when I get back "up there" Sunday, I'll have a new toy.

Got back "up here', and there it was, a virgin SCTX4, with my tunes!!
Tell you guys what, it went from wow, that's nice, to
DAMMIT!!!! I've only got it on the 87P/T tune right now, and couldn't contain myself. This thing really cranks now. My exhaust tone did change a bit at idle, for the better in my book. I like the way it shifts so far as well, plus I don't seem to give it as much pedal to get it going either. I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow to get a few miles on it so it learns my driving habits, but it looks like my mileage may actually pickup if I keep my foot out of it.
I'll run this tune for awhile, and then try some 89, just for grins and giggles.

Well, I've managed to keep my foot out of it with the tank that is in it. Mileage did pickup a bit on the "lieometre". Going downstate today, so will see what happens. 400 mile round trip, with city driving once I get down there, with it set on 87 P/T. I'll do my utmost to stay off it!! Well, maybe just a couple times LOL
