Default Where Does Audio Go From Here??

So, since my first vehicle to today, here is the progression that I have seen.

AM Radio
Am/FM Stereo
8-Track Tapes
Cassette Tapes
CD Players

They have all gone by the wayside, since now the 2019's eliminated the CD players, due to USB Ports and thumb drives.

So my question is, what is next? Any ideas?

Just plain old digital through the cloud would be my guess.

I rarely listen to the radio at all in my truck, I stream everything over the net via blue tooth. Prefer Pandora.

As long as there are FM stations, I don't care where it goes.

I agree with you about Pandora, but if you live out West, there are many places that will have no cell coverage for hours. So I have a bunch of Pandora back-up on a 64 Gb thumb drive.

People don't always realize this, but cellphone service is is not guaranteed. This is in our local paper travel section today, an Amtrak ride between L.A. and Seattle.

8 a.m.: Klamath Falls, OregonI wake in Oregon to high desert wilderness and snow-dusted pine forests. We opt for the buffet breakfast and spend the morning taking in the panorama from the observation car, which offers comfy seating. Cell service is nonexistent for most of day two, which meant board games, deep conversations and actual human connection sans social media.

This is exactly why I keep my old-school mount to the window of the GPS with Lifetime maps. Until Google allows me to download the entire USA instead of sections I'll keep that thing.

Back to our regularly scheduled program...

I know, eventually we will have universal coverage, but out West it will be a long time. If California isn't close, Nevada, Utah, Arizona etc will have a long wait.

Coverage is so spotty here in Nevada, that my ATV club invested in a SPOT for emergency use. They used it once, so far, to call in a chopper. The point I'm trying to make is why would anyone invest in a SPOT if they could just call for help with their phone?
