What would you do?
I think if you can get 7,500 for it on trade, you should take it. The issues you mentioned sound like normal wear and tear, but the tranny slipping would scare the hell out of me. Time to cut 'er loose.
A lot of it sorta depends not just on which vehicle preferance but also financial stability currently. And then there's so many different factors involved in that only you could / would know.
Personally, if I could swing it comfortably $ wise ( in short AND long term wise assuming getting a 3 to 5 year loan ) I'd prob replace it as it's not much fun to drive something you don't really care about all that much. And when it gets down to it, at least personally, it's not just a vehicle, it's one of my main interests / hobby.
But if replacing it means more money paid out per month and for a longer period of time, eh there's pro's and con's. It's a great feeling to actually pay off a car/truck and one that sadly not too many people these days experience much due to wanting the newest and greatest all the time.
Does that make sense at all?

I still say dump it (trade it quick). My truck was great then the tranny started slipping and other things went within a 2 week period...$2000.00 in estimates later and my 4 wheel drive went out in the winter..my mechanic said dump it quick and I trust him (he could have said let me fix it and made $$$) so I dumped it the next day.

I couldn't agree more. Thats my exact sentiments to a T. And My 4.6 has been a champ. I'm pushing 85k. Regular plug changes, oil too. She's been a champ and quite honestly I expect to put an easy 150k on her.
Sell it/trade it, and go new. 5 years ago I'd have said go used, but as rebates seem to make a new truck cost less than a late model used, I say go for it while you can. This way you know how it was driven from day one. And I don't make much more if any than you, so I don't want to hear that crap either. (E5, right?)
Yeah... I tend to go for 10yo vehicles or so and get the wife new(er) stuff from about 2-3 years old with < 30k miles. I'm going to price out doing an entire front end rebuild including shocks and see where that ends me. The interior stuff is easily fixed and I have a "rainy day fund" that could go to a tranny if/when it comes along. Hell, if the tranny goes, its definitely going to be a rainy day.
I'm still hard on the fence but I'm leaning toward keeping it and fixing it up just because I dont wanna **** away $2500 BEFORE negotiations.

I say get rid of it while there is still some value in it. I saw the truck and it really looks to be in great condition overall (besides your little redneck rigging under the hood). You had mentioned that your really missed your newer f150 even though it was 2wd. Get a truck that you will enjoy driving and that your arent worring about breaking down everytime you drive it.
