Default What would you do?

So I have had this 2002 Supercrew XLT 4x4 since January and I drove a 2005 Lariat 2wd before this. I have a question that could possibly help me determine my next course of action.

As stated, I got the truck back in Jan and I think I made an impulse buy. It had 101k on it and I paid almost $11k wich for this area is about normal. The downfalls that it has are things that I could have noticed before purchase but failed to inspect it as deep as I did normally. It was definitely a tool that was used hard by its previous owner but does not appear like it was abused. Little things like the dash has the charactaristic grey paint coming off the radio surround showing black, steering wheel is discolored from having a "RealTree" cover on too long, LF seat torn and repaired rather cheaply but fixed none the less. Ya know, little picky stuff.

Fast forward to present day. It now has 112k on it, is only worth about $7500 trade in. I have noticed the 4.6L in the 4x4 Screw is horrid. I have had the CEL come on twice in two months. First time was an ignition coil and I have yet to find out why it came on yesterday. I have also noticed that it does not like slowing down to low speeds (5-10mph) and then accelerating again. The transmission slips for a second and then jerks when it finally enguages. It needs front ball joints (oh well, its got 112k miles) and it needs exhaust manifold gaskets.

The reason for this poll is to see if this were your vehicle and you were not particularly attached to it, would you keep it around and just deal with it until it drops?

Sounds like it is just going to be a money pit, get rid of the thing and buy you a nice truck. Look it over really well. I have the 4.6 in my screw and I don't mind the motor at all. It has so far been a really good motor, no problems at all, hitting 72K miles on the OD.

The issues you are having seem pretty minor. I would stick with it, but you need to do what is best for you.

i'd say if you have the means try to get the top dollar for it and get a 06 Screw 4x4. This year you will be able to find pretty reasonable with a few miles on it and you will escape the cam phaser ordeal if you go with the 5.4 which it sounds like you do. I really would love to have a warranty so i could fix little stuff so if you find one with coverage left then all the better. I mean you could probably fix it for less but if you aren't happy with the truck overall then why even bother. It is much easier to say go out and buy a better one when it isn't our hard earned money we're spending. I'd go with your gut though and ditch it personally.

Ditch it before anything bad happens and you can't get jack for it. You're not attached, so go get a better one!

Try and find something that newer with low miles, you wont save any money if you have to keep flipping trucks, you always lose in the end doing it. So if your going to replace it, do lots of research!! Impulse buys on vehicles are never worth it

I'm guessing you don't know much about it's previous maintenance; something I'm betting will not happen to you again....

Sell it, get one that's going to satisfy your requirements. Your not happy with the current 4.6 in this truck, you've got some nickle/dime problems and some potential big dollar (slipping transmission) ones.

Guy like you with big bucks should have a Raptor! Then you can loan it to me for a week or so. I'll even change it's oil upon return!
