totaled or not?
Here in Texas, other than the DWI (which may lead to life in prison), depending on the person, there is little to no recourse for getting money from an uninsured motorist. The only time you might be able to see any money is if the person sells their house. However, San Antonio, Dallas, and I think Houston have police patrols with cameras that scan plates, and if someone is driving uninsured, they will tow/impound the vehicle on the spot, which does help things.
They came and took it to the body shop today. Hopefully, I'll find out something tomorrow!Unless they find another 4000 dollars of damage under the hood they will probably repair it.As for the other driver he was out of jail the next mourning and my insurance company is still trying to get him to call them .Good luck with that!!He doesnt have a job , house or anything of value. So I would say my insurance just lost that money. They should make him make payments or go to jail .I have been in two other accidents before and both of those trucks were totaled (not my fault)and one of those drivers didnt have insurance either ,so mine had to pay.Theres alot of them out there . I wouldnt drive with just liability insurance in anything that I couldnt afford to just lose it!!And I might have to break his hip yet.lol
The adjuster looked at it today and said from what he could see cost to fix it was around 9500. He said it would take around 14,000 to total but he couldnt get the hood open to see what was damaged under the hood. he wants to take it to a local body shop and let them open the hood and get a quote from them i guess! So we'll see tomorrow ! I have heard really good things about this shop so im at least happy where its going. Either way things could be worse. I could have been paying for it myself if i hadnt had full coverage.I'll keep you posted . Thanks for the opinions
With that said, I'm sure you could find a cheap shop that'll repair that for less than $9K, but there are shops that would charge much more than $14K to repair. Depending on how your laws work, and if you really wanted her totalled, I'm sure you could find a shop that would charge $4K more for the fix.
They didn't lose that money. They are just paying you back for what you've paid into them. I couldn't tell you how much over the last 20yrs I've paid in insurance for them to never shell out a dime.
It's a reported accident. All the dealer needs to do is run the VIN.
But it depends on when all the information is submitted.
My last accident in August 2006 is a perfect example. 2002 F150 Scab FX4 Lariat. Truck was worth $17K at the time. They did $16.5K worth of parts and labor on the truck, which included installing a new frame. Got the truck back in October 2006. Traded the 2002 in for a 2006 in December 2006. When they ran my truck through the system, the accident had not been reported/filed yet. Lucky me, since I got a good deal $16K for my trade in, which if it had included the accident my trade wouldn't have been worth nearly that much.
So sometimes timing and the company doing the repairs is key.

The adjuster called me today and said it was totaled! The guy at the body shop was up to around 13,500 and still waiting on prices for a couple more parts.Glad thats over !!He's going to call me back tomorrow on the amount.
