Shock Rebuild or Replace?
I got fox coilovers because I wanted to level the truck and at the same time add some mild, but much improved over stock, off road capability. A regular level kit wouldn't have provided that.
I was talking about what the OP said about having to rebuild @ 50K "Read Please"
Well wouldn't the obvious answer be that they are more capable and improve ride and performance. Yeah the trade off is more upkeep you are right, but I am guessing it is worth it to most of the people who buy them.
improved performance up to 50K miles and then replace... no thanks, I'm pretty sure no body spend $900 on a set of Fox coil overs and then ****cans them after 50K miles...
Yeah you rebuild them after that, I don't quite get what the issue is here, if you don't like them you don't like them, no need to be aggressive about it.
Aggressive ?? lol I never said I did not like them... they are awesome ...what I was saying is I doubt most people that buy them do not rebuild them @ 50K miles and why should you have to when OEM struts last over 100K miles.
ohhh, I misunderstood your take and it made me read it with the wrong intent I guess. So MY bad. I don't know enough about shocks to tell ya why the expensive ones need to be rebuilt earlier, I am with you on that.
Just want to add my $.02 here.
For my 2011 SCab, I installed Bilstien 5100's on all 4 at 60,000 miles. The OEM's were ok, but I knew they would give out soon before a long trip. The 5100's added enough lift and ride improvement over the OEM's, and I thought I would rebuild them when worn. The 5100's were still doing great with 110,000 miles on them! I asked about rebuild, and got the same 'huh?' answer many of you did. I solved the problem and got a 2015, since it also needed other major replacement stuff. The 2011 / 5.0 was great to 182K...still cookie'.
