That -31 F for you Americans. It was windy too but that should not matter.

I tried the remote start from inside the house, could see the lights flash but it did not start. I tried again when I was close enough to hear. The starter engaged, but not long enough to start the engine.

When I put the key in, it started almost like normal. So my question is:

Is the remote start not supposed to work when it is really cold?
OP I would think an engine at -35C or below would benefit from the block heater which all F150's in Canada come with especially in Alberta. Any supper cold engine will take a few extra cranks to start and the remote starter doesn't continuously crank until the engine starts. Just my 2 cents.

LoL....Um it must be the metal in your teeth fillings amplifying the signal.

I heard if you do this it improves the range too.

I also am in Alberta, Calgary actually and my truck started with no problems yesterday morning with the remote start. I have never had any issues with the remote start in cold temps.

The only time I have issues with my starter is in the rain. The high humidity won't let the fob work correctly. And when I use the fob my truck just beeps at me.

I usually have to hit the lock button once before the start button, but it never fails to start. However, this morning after I did remote start I started talking to someone and did not make it out to my truck for about 15 minutes. My truck had turned itself off by the time I made it outside. Has this happened to anyone?

You can set the length of time the truck will run after having been started with the remote. I think that 15 minutes is the maximum amount available.

That is one thing that bugs me with OEM remote start systems. I wish I could set it to run longer. When I'm at work is when this would come into play. Make my last rounds to check my equipment, remote start the truck, change out, pass it on to the next shift. This all takes longer than 15 mins. Sometimes I can get it from the control room offices, sometimes not. If the next shift is late, the truck is already cooled back off. First world problems I guess.

While I am certainly not in an area where temperatures that cold are an issue, I have experienced something very similar in my 13 and its factory remote start. I have noticed that it doing the same thing the OP mentions earlier. The lights flash, you hear the starter engage for just a second, and then nothing.

Strangely enough, what has helped me and kept it from ever happening again, is I do the remote start sequence on the FOB more slowly than before. I know it sounds a bit strange, but it works.

On my 2011, I could hit lock and then double tap the start button really fast and it would start right up. For some reason the 2013, I have to hit the lock then move to the start and push it, let it depress for just a second, and then push it the second time. I really think I was just pushing it too quickly.

It might not work for you, but maybe worth a shot. It's what worked for me.
