Remote Start in Low temps?
Today my 2012 5.0 L was plugged in for a few hours. Outside Temp -35 C .
That -31 F for you Americans. It was windy too but that should not matter.
I tried the remote start from inside the house, could see the lights flash but it did not start. I tried again when I was close enough to hear. The starter engaged, but not long enough to start the engine.
When I put the key in, it started almost like normal. So my question is:
Is the remote start not supposed to work when it is really cold?

Keepin' the lights on!
Are you talking about the factory remote start or aftermarket?
It should start no matter the temperature. My truck remote started just fine at -25F last year. Maybe try locking the truck with the fob first.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'll try next time from closer,

I also have a 2012 5.0, an OEM remote start, and like you I'm dealing with these bitterly cold temperatures in Alberta.
Overnight temperatures dropped to -36 C so I obviously had my truck plugged in. Just after noon (the temperature was a balmy -27 C) I used the remote start and my truck started like normal with no issue.

The remote should work whatever the temperature is. That's what it is designed for.
Several people have commented recently that if you press the fob under your chin, it will transmit better. Certainly worth a try as it costs nothing.
Are your fob batteries fresh enough?
Do you hold the button down long enough?
My remote is not a FoMoCo unit but it works very well and has never failed.
I press the start button for 2 seconds.

I thought the chin business was a bunch of BS the first time i read it.
I have to say though, works dang near every time!
I did it twice today in a parking lot, Tried it normally 1st, Lights didnt even blink. Under the chin, fired right up.

Just to b on the safe side. Since the temp are getting so low. I would have the battery load tested.. I know it's relatively new. But better safe than sorry and if you have a good relationship with your dealer or friend. They will do it free.. GL..

Even if the fob batteries seem OK, maybe try some new ones. Also, are you plugging in the truck when its that cold? Do you have a battery blanket? Maybe check the battery voltage when this is going on-before cranking, during cranking, and running. These motorcraft batteries are far from the best.
Edit: I re-read the first post, you are plugging it in.
